question about Caesar

Post » Mon Feb 22, 2010 9:56 am

I just used the platinum chip to upgrade the Securitrons, and went back to New Vegas. My question is: Since Caesar wanted me to blow up the bunker, why did he let me leave his base with the platinum chip without doing his bidding? Another question: why couldn't Caesar do the deed himself?

Thanks,
Wrayk

A bit of a spoiler, but it may have something to do with his health condition. Also he doesn't want to go down there (and oddly enough wouldn't just send his own men), so all he felt was the "rumbling" (caused most likely by a combination of your fight with the robots down there, and the health problems he's having altering his perception of some things).

The rumbling was caused by the thousands of hidden securitrons being activated.

As for why they didn't blow up the bunker themselves, it's because they couldn't get inside without the platinum chip. Course, that doesn't explain why they didn't send a couple legionaries down with the Courier to make sure he/she does what Caesar asked.

But they did have the platinum chip, since they captured Benny and he had the chip, no? Wasn't Caesar the one to give us the chip? I don't see why he needed us.

So are you saying that Caesar let us go because he thought the rumbling of the Securitron activation was actually us blowing up the bunker?

Neither do I, it confused me as well, but apparently everyone in the Legion's too frightened to go down into the dark scary bunker.

Yup. He's very trusting for a megalomaniacal despot.

I always kill Benny, so I always have the Platinum Chip. But yeah, it's a pretty big plot hole.

Yes, and he says exactly this after you return from the bunker to talk to him.

The Legion is formed from hunter gatherer societies so it would make sense that they have superstitious beliefs that even Caesar's brutal methods can't completely eliminate.

Also, it was kind of a test for the Courier. The Courier is the only person who has access to Mr. House and Caesar has to make sure that the Courier is competent enough to eliminate House for him.

Go down there with a hunting rifle a machete, and your hit points handy capped to about 150 and tell me if its frightening, oh and no rad away or rad-x as the legion is largely ignorant of medical science they won't have any of those to spare. Only the most elite of Caesar's legion could stand up to the sentry bots and other nasties down there. And as Caesar has no idea whats down there how red faced would he be if a dozen of his best men blew themselves up? Why risk his own men when he can risk you.

Caesar want's to recruit you, so its logical the first task your given is to go down into an irradiated bunker and destroy what's down there. He knows you either came for or with the platinum chip. So he already knows the Courier has knowledge of the chip and what its for.

And maybe Caesar figures, "If the Courier is going to betray me he'll/she'll will try and kill me so it doesn't matter if that earthquake was the bunkers destruction or not."

OK, that makes sense. It's a test.

But as far as the results, I'm still confused. Since I activated the securitrons instead of blowing up the bunker, I ran out of the Legion camp without going back to Caesar. I was surprised Caesar didn't stop me, since If I was Caesar, and the courier didn't blow up the bunker, I'd kill the courier immediately. Instead, Caesar let an enemy (the courier) go free.

One other question -- how do you kill Benny, either before or after he's taken prisoner? He fled Vegas before I got to fight him, and I didn't see him in the Legion camp.

Thanks,

Well, either, but you've missed the boat on the former. You should be able to find him tied up in Caesar's tent.

Super Duper Huge Caesar spoiler
Spoiler

Ceasar is having a major health issue.
He has black outs...
He has lapses in memory...
He may (big may here) may be a touch delusional (this is the only justification for boosting Lanius to second in command... Even Caesar knows he has no love for the 'idea' of the Legion yet he wants him to replace him?)
He is very very near death.

I just figured that since Caesar was a FoA, and he is very intellegant he would know it was not an explosion... however his ex-tribal guardsmen would not. Caesar was in a moment of black out, and when he came to his guards informed him of a rumbling resembling an explosion.

As for how to kill Benny...
My first run I seen Benny standing there from a distance... walked up to him with a hold out pistol, and shot him infront of everyone. Wound up killing all of the Tops(ers), but it was worth it.
