Question about CHIM

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 6:27 pm

Basically, CHIM is a state where you realize that you are just a thought of the mad god-head, therefore you become unique, instead of being part of the god-head's mind? And for most, when they realize it, they fade away? But CHIM is overcoming that, accepting that you are not singular, and achieving some form of higher thinking, not all knowing, but almost like viewing the fact that you are a NPC in a game? Sorry for the moronic question, but CHIM has just really been bothering me as of late

You look at the Godhead and say with full conviction:

"Squadala! We're off!"

That's the basics. And then you use the creation kit to bend reality.

You look at the Godhead and say with full conviction:

"Squadala! We're off!"

The cliff racers are singing. Isn't it beautiful?

Basically, Joe Vekhbody comes to the precipice of satori - the numinous realization that "OH SWEET-N-SOUR CHRIST, I'M EVERYBODY, EVER!"

Joe then has two options:

1) Zero-Sum. Joe's noodle can't square his own mortal experiences with this whiff of infinity and he just nulls out.

2) CHIM. Joe "enters into his own mother" and becomes his own Universe.

Zerosum: Agents come and get you.
CHIM: You bust out, and robots come and get you

Basically, it's like this.
You're dreaming. You don't know it, so you act normally.
You realize you're dreaming. You either wake up (zero-sum, exiting the dream) or you stay asleep but now aware that it is a dream. Now you are dreaming lucidly, which gives you vast control over the nature of the dream itself.

The only difference here is that it's a theoretical god's head that is having this dream and not you.

It feels like CHIM was less-defined four years ago when I first started posting here. Now it's been talked to death. There's no good excuse for not knowing what CHIM is anymore.

Well, I joined yesterday, and it's the stuff that MK wrote about it that confuses me the most about the lore. Yes, I have been reading about the lore for a good couple months now, but I've been trying to stay away from the very confusing things for a while until I got my feet in the water.

You can have a perfect understanding about TES lore without reading a single obscure source. Everything that's not in the game is additional information, usually quite confusing, silly, or both. It is this stuff that is the most hotly debated on here.

Morpheus tells it best:

"You take the ZERO-SUM – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe.
You take the CHIM – you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes."

Oh and lore junkies, stop being elitist goonies. Play nicely with your new friend or it's detention for all of you! :glare:

It's like assuming that lightsabers are weightless, and then being told they can't be held by amateurs because of a massive rotating force produced by the arcing energyblade. Accursed footnotes!

Nice Matrix reference. Also, thanks for standing up for the new guy. You make a cold hearted Thalmor wizard trying to destroy the towers new guy feel so warm inside

Plato was just plagiarizing the much older and more esteemed works of Brug the Barbarian. :spotted owl:

Heresy. Everyone knows Brug the barbarian was plagiarizing a 29th century treatise on the evolution of philosophy.

Poppycock! That 29'th century treatise on the evolution of philosophy was a poorly forged copy of an 19'th century steam ship bilge pump operations manual!

Bollyballs! everyone knows that manual was just a single sentence saying "Never rupture the tri-hull welds and then reverse the bilge pumps."
