Question about Crippling

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:08 pm

My reference: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault-Tec_Assisted_Targeting_System#Effects

I am not sure if I entirely understand crippling effects in combat. If you shoot a limb will it always cripple, or is it more of a random thing? What statistic affects its occurence? Is the chance of making a gun drop out of someone's weapon by shooting it the same as the chance of crippling a limb? Also, if you shoot a critical, will it ALWAYS cripple a limb / make a weapon fall out of their hands (if aiming for the weapon, not arm)?

Lots of questions. You see, I want to make a Gunslinger that can disarm someone with one shot, but I don't like to put high LUK in characters for good crits because LUK is kind of a.. well, for a game that doesn't leave much to chance, having an unaccountable stat like LUK is a little bit.. weird. That's just my weird taste though. I just want to know of the above build is still possible if you don't leave things to LUK and critical hits.

It's not random. Limbs have health. Find a weapon with a big crit multiplyer.

Okay, I understand. So a weapon will only fly out of the hand if its health is completely gone?

If you shoot the weapon you aren't crippling the arm. I do not know whether shooting the weapon out of the hand of an opponent always leaves the weapon at 0%. This is one of my favorite techniques, but I seldom reclaim the weapons, nor am I that interested in the mechanics of why he's dropped it so can't explain that to you because I've never looked into it. I just want him to drop the damn thing. But, it doesn't take very many shots to get rid of the weapon if you are good at it (one shot can do it) so if it does require getting the health down to 0% you might want to be using a better weapon to do it.

Why does it matter if the game leaves much to chance or not? Luck controls critical chance, a very useful stat if you care about getting critical hits.

I only really want to find out if luk/crits affects the chance of shooting a weapon out of someone's hand. I probably should have made that my first post.
