Question about critical damage

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:39 pm

I have been wondering how critcal damage works. Let me give an example so this is kind of easy.

Lets say I have a bow with elemental damage and arrows that have elemental damage. The bows damage is 16, arrow is 8. Lets say the elemental damage is 30 total combined from the bow and arrow. Also, lets throw in poison. I will use a 20 damage heath poison here. When a critical sneak hits for the X3 damage, is that only for the primary damage or does the elemental and/or poison damage also go X3.

Here are the examples:

Bow = 16
Arrow = 8
Ele = 30
Poison= 20

Just bow and arrow damage X3
16 + 8 = 24
24 x 3 = 72
72 + 30 + 20 = 122 total damage

Bow, arrow, and poison damage X3
16 + 8 + 20 = 42
42 x 3 = 126
126 + 30 = 156 total damage

Bow, arrow and elemental damage X3
16 + 8 + 30 = 52
52 x 3 = 156
156 + 20 = 176 total damag

Bow, arrow, elemental and poison X3
16 + 8 + 30 + 20 = 72
72 x 3 = 216 total damage

I hope everyone can understand this one. I look forward to any feedback =)

This gets the multiplier:
physical bow damage
physical arrow damage

This does not:
poison
enchantment on bow
enchantment on arrow

;)

Thank you Acadian =)
I actually just found a +10 fire damage bow and a +40 fire damage in 10ft set of arrows (current char is only lvl 11 lol) so I was really curious as this would have decimated all, but I guess that would break the game lol. I will try to find me a nice max bow and set my own enchants then I guess...

You're welcome! Here is a neat trick that can sometimes come in handy at very long ranges.

The sneak attack damage multiplier is based on the weapon that you have equipped at the time damage is done. Therefore, you can get the maximum 6x sneak attack bonus when firing an arrow at a target if you switch to a melee weapon (or become unarmed) before the arrow strikes.

??? Wouldn't it be easier to just unequip the bow and go into H2H mode before the arrow hits? Save you carrying the extra weight. Besides, you'll only get a 1x sneak damage multiplier with a 2handed weapon.

Damn I am a fool thanks for the correction, I only took into account the damage not the two handed in no way am I ever doing a crit with this tree trunk rule..

Plus I was just joshing around with the concept I like it, it seems a little to hinky a trick even for me.
That said if I wanted to I would just up the crit chance in the construction set.

But thanks for the catch anyway cheers.

Everyone makes foolish mistakes every now and then. Even me. I was just kind o' making sure I wasn't missing something myself. :)
