Question about european pc version of the game

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 4:40 pm

So a few years ago I bought morrowind goty edition for the xbox. Since I liked the game a few years later when I bought a gaming computer I also got oblivion. I found out about mods and so I figured since my xbox was starting to break at this time I would get morrowind for the pc to try out some of the mods. So I went on amazon and bought a copy of morrowind for the pc. Now I'm in america but the seller was apparently selling european versions of the game, something he didn't mention in any description. After complaining and getting yet another european version of the game sent to me I contact amazon and got my money back. I still have both copies and now years later I decided to try it out. Everything installs fine as far as I'm aware, so it doesn't seem to have the issue like consoles with the region problem. The questions I have is are there any patches for the morrowind game of the year edition for the pc? I have version 1.6.1820. The new design for elderscrolls.com is terrible and makes getting to the patches a pain in the ass so thats the only reason I ask. You used to be able to look at the patch and see a description, not anymore. The box of the version I have has all the descriptions in english and also in what I think is german. On the disc it says english version. So if there is a patch I need to get for the goty edition I don't know which one I would get.

The second question I have is about mods. Would I get the north american ones since I have an english edition of the game even if its the european version? If not where would I get them and how can I tell which ones to get based on language. Last I'm just curious if the mods are installed the same way as in oblivion. Sorry about all the questions. Thanks for the help.

You can still find the patches on ElderScrolls, if you use the Internet Archive: http://web.archive.org/web/20080331103226/www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm
There is a difference between American and European games. So make sure you have the correct version of patches that matches your game.
If you have "Game of the Year" edition, then you don't need any Bethesda patches.

Using mods for MW is basically the same as OB (folder paths are similar,) but some of the tools are quite different.
If you're familiar with Wrye Bash, it's Morrowind counterpoint is http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27588.
http://code.google.com/p/mlox/wiki/Mlox is also helpful for sorting your Load Order.

Will I be able to use the mods off of nexus and similar sites for morrowind or will I need to get a specific version. While looking around for oblivion mods I have seen stuff like 'russian version' or 'italian version' so I'm not sure if I need anything different or I can just get anything I want since I have the english version of the game even though its the european one. Damn sellers on amazon need to specify which region they are selling games for.

Mods are never Region based. Just language. (Mods with "Russian" or "Italian" version just pertain to language)

Anything in English should work for any English version of Morrowind.

Well, I assume that the different languages would be the only in-game differences. But the game would also have a different http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code.

Different countries have different http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regional_lockout#Video_games to better control distribution and avoid pirating.
(Music and film also use Regional coding in the same manner.)
