Question about FOSE

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:00 am

I just downloaded and installed the Fallout Script Extender so I could use the Weapons Mod Kits plug-in. But i just discovered something unexpected. When I use the FOSE loader it started the game without the fallout 3 disk. My question is: Is this normal and is there any risk to playing the game this way? I played for a little bit and didn't see that there were any problems but I'm by no means an expert. It would be kind of convenient for me to not need to use the disk but I'm reluctant to play in case there's a problem. Thanks all.

Yes, it's normal. The disc check in built into the Fallout launcher, and FOSE_loader.exe has to bypass that in order to work. I've kept my DVD in its protective case for most of the time I've owned the game, only taking it out when I absolutely needed the disc (reinstall the game, new video card, etc). Pretty sure this is intended functionality, it works without FOSE if you just run Fallout.exe.
