Question about gamers.

Why do some people like to think of gamers immediately as nerds?

Almost every human activity can be seen as peculiar by people who don't participate.

Because some gamers like me are nerds!

But, I am capable of transforming into a sixy nerd.

So...

That's a great way to articulate it.

lol because it's different, and the mainstream will never understand why people like us huddle around a game to discuss the philosophical elements it inspires. But I like it that way to some extent.

i agree.

i've spoken with a few in my life who feel that way about "gamers" and all it takes is a couple seconds to name off a few of the many well-known athletes, singers, actors or other famous individuals who play video games and they quickly realize the error of their thinking.

I never understood the "norm" where a science geek is a gamer (or vice versa). I remember YouTube had a gamer trivia challenge aimed at gamers during a Nerd Week theme it had going on. There were some gaming related questions but a ton of science in it which I obviously got wrong. I'm just a gamer, society! :P

I think that mindset is all but dead now along with people who think of gaming as something for children. It's a pretty mainstream form of entertainment, the once rare gamer girl now takes up a big chunk of the market.
