Question about Homes

Post » Thu Oct 13, 2011 7:27 pm

I know that we will be able to buy homes in the five main cities, but does anyone know if they can be purchased in towns as well? I doubt it, but it would be nice.

I don't think we've received any info on this issue yet.

maybe but i guess there isn't much advantage to having a home in a small town is the thing.

Wait and see, though I doubt that this will happen. I would be willing to bet that you can obviously get homes in the five major cities though. Even if you can't buy a house in a town or elsewhere I think the option of owning five homes at once is more than enough for me.

I'd think it would be rather awesome.

It's a bit boring when there's only 5 to choose from.

As far as I know you can also move in with the person that you marry. So maybe houses in small towns will be an option.

Unless wives are only available in cities >.<

In Oblivion you could have homes in the countryside. One example is http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:White_Stallion_Lodge, a quest reward. So I presume we can.

You have reached apprentice level in real estate.

Hope so though.

I'm sure I read somewhere that houses are available in all the major cities. I doubt there will be any for sale in the smaller ones, but (correct me if I'm wrong) couldn't you kill the owner of a house and then sleep in it for free in Oblivion? If so I'm sure you could in Skyrim too.

IIRC, thats one of the major things Skyrim was first announced with. That you can sleep in people's beds once they are dead

Maybe you can obtain houses outside of the major cities but they won't be your standard run-of-the-mill house and you wont be able to straight-up buy them, you'll have to fight an infestation of vampires or something to obtain the house.

If you discreetly murder the owner of a house, all their chests and beds will become unowned. Well, I know their beds do, but I'm not sure about their chests.

See the trouble with that is if you mess up and the items are 'owned' you'll have the guards down your neck straight away. But with any luck the whole 'omnipresent' guard problem will be solved in Skyrim.

What? I'm not talking about Oblivion. This is Skyrim. The guards don't have some sort of magical periphal vision any more. I could walk into someones house in Riverwood, kill them with a dagger, and take over as owner of the house while everyone wonders why there's a disgusting smell coming from behind the local bakery.

So technically, yes, you can own a house in any city. You just need to do a little...work.

I don't think you'll be able to do that. Would be suspicious if a bloke would die and another bloke would just move into his house. I don't know if People/ guards can feel suspision in Skyrim though.

Well since it was confirmed to be possible to do that months ago, I think I will be able to do that.

It doesn't matter much regardless; housing mods are one of the first things to appear on fansites...

A lot of people are very poor designers however, so I would certainly like to see the game developers add a large number of homes for sale (or to be found/given)... And not just your average one-room home, but different types of places; like castles, towers, burrows or natural caves... Not all characters are fit for living in the city after all; i.e. if you're a werewolf or vampire, you'd certainly like to live remotely enough not to attract attention, but still close enough to civilization for you to be able to feed regularly.

In the same manner, a wealthy merchant, wizard or nobleborn wouldn't exactly like to have to live in a small shack in some dead-end small town with no political or commercial contacts whatsoever.

As far as I've heard, however, the developers are very big on giving players the "freedom of choice" in Skyrim, so one could hope that would include a freedom to choose one's own residence.

Personally, I want to be able to build my own house, out in the woods where I can lay traps in case people stumble upon it. Where I can draw people too where there can possibly be no witnesses and kill them, then bury them in the ofrest. never to be found.

I hope there are more different types of homes than in Oblivion. I badly want a mead hall like Thirsk, in the snowy mountain woods :celebration:

That would be pretty cool, but I think with current gen hardware and the amount of time given for them to make Skyrim, that would've taken a lot of development time.

Meanwhile, you can always check out http://www.minecraft.net/ if you want to build your own house.

I'd like there to be some 'cabin in the woods' option too, perhaps with a mini quest to get it.
