Question about install order

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 11:00 pm

So I'm starting a new game with a few select mods, and I'm wondering which order I should install in (I use OBMM and all mods are OMODs). This is the order I've got so far, please tell me if I should change anything:

QTP3+patch
Bomret SI Texture Pack

OMOBS
Unofficial Oblivion Patch 3.2.0
Unofficial Oblivion Patch 3.2.6
Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch 1.4
Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch 1.4 MOBS
Unofficial Official Mods Patch 1.5
Unofficial Official Mods Patch 1.5 MOBS
OOO 1.33
OOO 1.34b5

QTP3 UOP Compatibility Patch
Mikal33 Improved Textures
Blade9722 LOD+Border Textures
Koldorn LOD Noise Replacer
Low-Poly Grass
Enhanced Water 2.0 HD+SI

Darnified UI 1.3.2
Animated Window Lightning System Meshes
Animated Window Lightning System Textures
All Natural 0.9.95
Skip Introduction Dungeon Tutorial

If i were installing those id install first the Unofficial oblivion patch, than the Unofficial SI patch than the replacers and texture packs than all natural than OOO 1.33 patched to 1.34b5 than OMOBS. thats what i would do but i would wait for someone who knows more about alot of these mods to chime in because i only run the unofficial patches from that list

The reason I'm putting the big texture replacers first is because apparently they may overwrite some important mesh fixes from the Unofficial Patches. The reason for OMOD being first is... it said so in TES4: Positive

WhoGuru: I'm actually not asking about load order, but about install order. Load Order is being handled by BOSS.

Some things, it just doesn't matter when you install them. Others, it doesn't matter (between the two or more in question) what order you decide on. A really easy way to tell a lot about this kind of thing is to use BAIN as your primary installation method. Otherwise, you can have a look through the archives of each mod, and see what they actually add / replace, then compare with others, and go from there. Trick is, knowing which should be first. Which brings us back to your particular question. :)

For an example of what I mean, above, these two don't touch one another:

QTP3+patch
Bomret SI Texture Pack

Similarly, OMOBS only has ESP files, so unless one of your other mods has ESPs with identical names, there will be no confict whatsoever, and you can therefore install this one whenever you like. Same goes for Enhanced Water 2.0 HD+SI, f'rex.

Otherwise, I basically follow the most recent FCOM guide, some of which would apply in your case too.

The only thing I think you might be missing is... QTP Optimized Meshes - fixed, or something like that. Can't remember the exact original filename, unfortunately, and Nexus is down AFAIK. Anyway, if there is such a thing, it goes after QTP3's patch and the UOP+QTP patch, IIRC.

Well yeah, I know that only mods with conflicting files matter when it comes to install order... in this case UOP and UOP for SI overwrite quite a lot of files from QTP3 and Bomrets SI Texture pack. As it is now I installed QTP3 and Bomrets first. This kind of svcks since I'll be missing a lot of the new textures, but I guess fixes are more important? I don't know really, why is it so important to get these mesh fixes that it's worth sacrificing the improved visuals?
