Question about making Mod buildings VWD

So I want to make some buildings for a village mod visible when distant, they are a mixture of vanilla and customized meshes. Is it correct that all I need to do is make a Poly-reduced version of each building, include it in the same folder as the main mesh, only with a "_far.nif" and then check the "Viewable When Distant" flag in the CS?

Then rebuilding the LOD with TES4LODGen and it should work, right?
