Question about Mariposa Mutants.

Post » Wed Dec 09, 2009 8:49 pm

I'm going to play the original fallouts here in a few days but i was wondering why do Mariposa mutants hold up their upper lip with a strap? Is it to make them look more terrifying to people?

Well at least that's a answer. I think the most logical answer i had was "it was the 90's."

Intimidation or the fact their face is falling apart would be my guess.

i always thought that it was because they need to hold up their jaw, which would otherwise fall off. of course that is simply speculation, and it could easily just be a style thing. i mean, theres no real reason for Cabbot to wear power armor except for a helmet, is there?

He's supposed to be the "friendly face" of the brotherhood (well, as friendly as that lot got) for traders and the like. The helmet works against that goal.

I always assumed that their upper lips were deformed by the mutation process and they needed to tie them out of the way so they could speak clearly.

Well at least that's a answer. I think the most logical answer i had was "it was the 90's."

...or maybe because it was the '90s, although I really don't know what lip straps have in common with http://crossroadstrading.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/mc-hammer.jpg.

The D.C. mutants all become muscular and uniform. But Mariposa mutants, because of the way the Master changed the FEV for his purposes, tended to be more 'deformed.' My theory is that their faces were falling off because of the mutation.

Could be that the upper lips had grown so large and/or deformed that they interfered with eating and speaking (maybe they ended like a sort of meat flap hanging over the mouth).

I agree with Softnerd and sjvan0. Those facial deformations would likely make it hard to speak normally.

You'll notice that the Vault 87 mutants' mouths are already stuck in that odd sneer without the help of a strap.

Marcus is a notable exception, and even with him his lips are very large and his lower jaw bulbous, so how bad must the strapped mutants have it? So as the above have said, maybe it simply got in the way.

There has never been an official reason for it though.

I see, well these reasons are plausible. So basically the skin of the face begins to sag and the strap pulls it back so they can still speak and their lips wont hang at their chin.
