Question about my Melee/Unarmed Character

Post » Mon Oct 19, 2009 5:34 pm

My heads about to explode. I basically need to know if I should bother getting Heavy Handed, since my critical hit rating is going to be fairly high.

Luck + 7
Ninja + 15
Finesse + 5
Light Touch + 5
Built to Destroy + 3

So that's 35% chance to critical hit (assuming Ninja is working correctly and adding all 15%). Also, I was of course going to have Better Criticals.

Knowing that I'll be landing a critical hit 1 out of every three times, is it worth Getting Heavy Handed which lowers your critical damage by 60%? I know the math can be done to figure it out, I'm just lazy/slow, I guess.

Can someone help me figure it out factoring in all my perks and assuming I'm using Liberator, Bare-hands, and the Balistic Fist with 100 Melee, and Unarmed?

Thank you very much in advance.

Ninia is still times 1.15, so you have 23%.

Depends if you like blade weapons or not, because Unarmed does well either way.

Doing some very rough calculations based on a crit rate of one in three, I'd suggest that you want to avoid Heavy Handed as it'll slightly reduce your overall damage output, particularly with the Liberator.

Mind you, the ballistic fist is so powerful that you might not even notice/need the critical hits. I haven't made a crit-focused unarmed build in NV myself though (and if you're not speccing a character for crits then its definitely the way to go.)

Heavy Handed is an awful trait if you're going to take those perks, I wouldn't take it.

PS: if you're on PC I highly recommend you download http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36638

I would only take heavy handed if your using a weapon like the chainsaw or thermic lance or ballistic fist.
Only use HH if your going full strength and endurance and looking for a heavy hitter who hits hard all the time.

If your going for crit hits, don't choose HH. Also if you take built to destroy, I recommend a good repair skill.

Try Oh!Baby, Knock Knock and Rebar Clubs?

Their crit damage is questionable to begin with, may as well have a better base damage.

Shikiskebab on the other hand can easily deck out 200 DPS with high crit build.

Unarmed is about the same until Light Touch is added, but overall it is mere 7.5% DPS.
