Question about MGE - widescreen

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 11:06 am

I finally got MGE to work, looks awesome and I can see for miles (32.0 cells) though I get the same amount of lag when I have just 15 cells which is strange, I take it its not the distant land which eats up ram but the closeby static objects and NPC's?

Anyway, I have a widescreen effect which Im not liking.. anyway to change it and make it more balanced? my resolution is at 1024 x 768 at a 4:3 aspect ratio.

What do you mean by widescreen? 1024x768 is not widescreen, so something is scaling wrong. You should have black bars on the sides with that res.
Try yout monitor settings, and if that fails, force GPU scaling in graphics card drives.

Edit: I might have misunderstood your question. What monitor do you have - 4:3 or widescreen? Could you post a photo (not a screen) of you monitor while playing Morrowind?

In the global graphical tab can you change the resolution to whatever you want provided that your monitor supports the resolution and a star " * " indicates widescreen (1920x1080 *) resolution.

Widescreen is 16:9 or 16:10, not 4:3. Change your aspect ratio if you want a widescreen resolution.

Regarding this issue using the FPS optimizer, I wasn't told this anywhere; Uncheck the 'novice' option and the ratio is available under the misc/2 tab.

Using FPS Optimizer to change the screen ratio and resolution will break things for MGEgui.exe (not sure about MGEXEgui.exe, but it's a possibility as well).

@Earthlinger
Assuming you are using the standard version of MGE, please post any MGE related questions in the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1240985-morrowind-graphics-extender-mge/.

If you're using MGEXE, then you should post to the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1340389-shelter-from-magnus-blaze-9/.

What gets messed up? :o I'm using FPS opt and MGE and I didn't notice any problems...

IIRC, the resolution settings are stored in the registry; FPS Optimiser stores them as one type of value when it should be DWORD(?). I guess MGE can't read the value if set by FPS Optimiser.
