Question about Mjoll and roleplay.

Post » Fri Aug 09, 2013 2:03 am

As you know, she is very engaged in this crusade to reduce Riften's crime rate. (I say reduce because I think Mjoll is very aware she can't do anything about Maven herself)

She's been doing that for a couple years, according to dialogue.

So, I'd like to ask those who've married and moved her to another house: In your headcanon, how did it make sense to pull her out of this?

I haven't actually married her, but I know exactly how I'd RP it. I'd tell her that she could make much more of a difference with me in the rest of Skyrim than she ever will in the hopeless cesspit that is Riften. I'd tell her how the bandits have nearly taken over, but a couple of strong swords can make the land safe again. "Join me, and together we can restore peace and order to the galaxy Skyrim!"

During the Viking age, some Norseman used to bring their wives with them in fights and such, and the Nords were inspired by them. There you have it.

That's kind of egoistic actually. What if she only cares about Riften and doesn't about what lies over the Rift?

leaving her in Riften does nothing for Riften. Despite all her "talk" she actually does nothing. The guild can thrive or remain stagmented if your not a member. What ever she does is implied and not actual events. Taking her away makes no difference to the state of Riften.

I had a thieves guild character who was tasked with stealing something from her home. It was late and the door was locked so I took her as a follower and got her key from her inventory. I then went into her house and stole the items with her as a follower. She didn't try and stop me. I then took her with me into the thieves guild and reported to Vex and handed over her stuff. Mjoll watched the whole transaction and did NOTHING.

bottom line is Mjoll is not bright. All muscle and no brains. Her presense or lack there of in Riften changes nothing.

Gameplay Does not Equal Lore

lore or not her presense doesn't change a thing.

she isn't actively doing anything. Any time I am in Riften and guards are attacking a thief, she's always in the Bee and Bard having a drink. Lore or not I don't see it as an RP breaker to remove her from Riften.

Its more of an RP breaker for me to kill an old woman, trigger the Dark Brotherhood MQ just do adopt a child from the orphanage.

This is what I mean.

When a character is poorly designed, it does.

Of course it's egoistic. How can it be anything else? I'm only entertaining myself, and she's not real. She can be whatever I want her to be in my "headcanon," as OP put it.

As it happens, I don't actually care for her very much. Too chatty. Annoying accent. Can turn hostile appallingly fast from accidental hits for a character who can't be killed. So yeah, in my actual games, she's content to stay in Riften, and I'm content to leave her there.

Actually the joke is on them, she allowed you to take the items and you got paid for them. That's the way I see it at least.

Unorganized and under Maven's control the Thieves guild is a menace that is only active in Riften and is shaking down everyone like a bunch of thugs in an effort to get enough money to stay afloat. But when the character climbs to head of the guild the player takes over and she is no longer calling the shots. It is actually a brilliant stroke, wrests control of the guild from her and takes the pressure off of Riften. The only thing she now controls is Black Briar Meadery and the Honningbrew meadery, a trade off that has become a business venture. Of coujrse she has contacts and becomes Jarl on the Imperial side if they win but the Thieves guild is out from under her thumb.

The way i RP it anyway.

Maybe so, but the fact that it leads to removing a great evil from Skyrim more than makes up for that.

I don't know what the exact words were, but I remember Mjoll telling Aerin she can't actually go down there and try to take out the whole guild herself.

In any case, usefulness isn't the point. I was asking those who care about RP why there wouldn't be anything wrong with taking her away from something she appears to care about.

But that would go against the Imperial questline. I would love to see a choice of removing Maven but being kicked out of the Legion.

I would, if I were to marry Mjoll, start the process by cutting off Maven's head in broad daylight, then march to Ragged Flagon and put every Thieves Guild fool to death and then finish the job by purging Maven's children, except the alchemist girl.

PC FTW

I already have by marrying her and moving into the Riften home so she can work on the town while I'm out handling business. Once I adopted then it was time to end the lost cause and move some place nice to raise the kids.

That reminds me... does Aerin still move in with her even if you are in a homestead?

Take her down to the Flagon and kill all the non-essentials. RP that the two of you have broken if not wiped out the Thieves' Guild. Now shes free to wander Skyrim with you...

I gotta wonder though... Whats her relationship with Aerin??? She has the key to his house and when I made her a Blade he promptly moved into Sky Haven Temple. O_O Are they married?? But the PC can marry her... Is he a stalker??? Whats going on!??!?!?!?!

well maybe if the civil war ends and the stormcloaks win, and her usefulness has passed for the thieves guild quest. I say her essential tags should have been removed.
