A question about piles of ashes and green goo

Post » Mon Dec 14, 2015 7:09 pm

I have noticed fairly recently in my travels that I have traveled back to locations where I gotten critical kill shots on enemies and turned them into piles of ashes (due to laser weaponry) or green goo (due to plasma weaponry). During one settlement attack on the Starlight Drive-In I had killed a couple of Gunners and then killed the last one near the snack counter with a critical shot from my plasma sniper rifle turning him into green goo. A few game days later I had returned to the Starlight Drive-In only to find that unsightly pool of green goo in the middle of my settlement with the rest of the gunner bodies vanished. When I go up to it it just says "Press button to activate", except that doesn't do anything. I have also come across a pile of ash while defending Hangman's Alley again that I know couldn't have been caused recently that also has that "press button to activate" thing as well. I dimly remember a similar problem from Fallout 3 but I was wondering if anybody could tell me if these will eventually disappear or if I will be stuck with these unwanted sights in the middle of my settlements forever? Any information on this puzzling matter would be greatly appreciated. As an Xbox One user I can't just use voodoo console commands to make this crap disappear.

i think it's safe to say that dead npc bodies have a lot of issues period...

i can understand for bodies that haven't been touched or even haven't been fully looted sticking around for a lil bit, but empty bodies should just disappear after like a day...

dont understand why there's so many issues with empty bodies all the time

This bug has been in Fallout since Fallout 3. It was never fixed. It is now accompanied by a bug which has carried over from Skyrim, where it was never fixed, dropped enemy weapons do not despawn.

All this leads to savegame bloat which causes long loading times and can cause savegame corruption.

It's really something that these bugs, which have been brought to their attention for years now, are just never fixed.

I do believe they specifically said the gun thing isn't a bug, it was designed that way on purpose.

similarly, they said many of the ash piles not despawning was also done on purpose because they didn't want NPCs possibly carrying quest objects to get reduced to goo, and the player be unable to get the quest object later.

i wonder how hard it would be to just add another option to the loot/fast loot menu that says 'dispose of body' and just deletes it...? i'd install that mod

Yes the problem is that these bodies were of random mooks who were attacking my settlements. And even if they were carrying mission critical quest items, I'd like it if I could actually access that inventory instead of pressing activate repeatedly and achieving nothing.

Is there a console command to delete ash/goo pipes and their offending references in save game files?

It's like Specticle Island. It's an amazing place to turn into a settlement, as thy basically give you an entire island to do with as you please. However there are dead bodies there. The settlers that lived there before you arrived. The bodies don't go away. And if you think you can just pick them up and throw them into the water.... They respawn.

It's an eyesore really. I mean who would want rotting dead bodies in their settlements?

Starlight Drive In has a similar problem. It's littered with skeletons. Can't get rid of them...

Would like to know to, as Disable doesn't work on the goo and ash puddles. There was a mod for this for FONV that I had, might have to wait for another one for FO4 :unsure2:

I have the same glitch also at Starlight Drive-in. An ashpile has been there for approx 100 hours of play, that says "activate" when I approach it. Since the ashpile has been there i've stopped getting attacks at the drive-in, despite having defense at zero with over 100 food+water. I has a sad.

The first thing sounds like bad design. A good idea for unique weapons, but I'd think those could be flagged separately so as not to disappear versus letting the run of the mill weapons lie around forever.

Similarly, couldn't they have just flagged quest objects so that corpses/goo/ash with them in their inventory wouldn't disappear until after a time when those items had been removed?

Both things sound like solutions to fix problems that just created a host of other problems.

Would be actually nice if bodies and skeletons could be disposed (scrapped) off in building menu.

1. Target or Prid ash/goo

2. MarkForDelete

It should be removed when you leave the area.

Maybe I'm just a bleeding heart but I wish for the option to bury the corpses, even the ghouls...

Ashes should blow away and goo puddles soak into the ground.
