Question about Pre-war Canada

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 2:06 am

Actually.... given what I know of those crazy bastards they would probably be the first to start firing nukes if they could get their hands on them. French Canadians vastly different from French across the ocean. I think there would be some problems getting them on board with this whole passive resistance thing.

Canada wasn't a stereotypical nice country back in the 1950s. You are right about the border and most of the population living close to it. But we have large cities in the north. The provincial and terriotrial capital cities would have been targeted. Not to mention all the northern military bases and early warning radar stations set up under NORAD in the arctic.

Canada in the Fallout Universe might have even been a nuclear power. From my understanding Canada rejected nuclear weapons in the 1970s. America wanted to place nuclear weapons in our arctic territory. The reason behind saying no was two fold. Canada was becoming gripped by Liberals and the idea of nukes in the Canadian arctic was pissing off the USSR.

So it could be possible that Canada in the Fallout Universe accepted nuclear weapons and placed them in the North. Which would have made Canada a nuclear power in the Fallout Universe.

Either way thow, America would have put nukes in the North once they started taking over in 2066, and since Canada became part of the USA in 2077. It would be targeted just like any other part of the United States by countries all over the world.

This is true. Since the Fallout universe uses an alternate timeline. Canada might not have been the peaceful country, we know from the real world.

Also Styles, where do you get most of your information? Is it from the FO Bible? The reason I ask is because I find it interesting.

The info about pre-war events comes from the bible, dev interviews and the games themselves.

Thank you. I've been a fan of Fallout since '97, but most of what I knew about pre-war politics was from the Fallout 1 intro.

That's very interesting you know about them rejecting nuclear weapons in the 1970s. I would imagine it was because of not bringing fourth trade sanctions from the Commie Block.

Well I know Canada in our timeline rejected nuclear weapons. I can speculate that Canada in the Fallout Universe would have accepted American nukes being placed in the Arctic.

Placing nukes there is pretty much the same things as the USSR putting nukes in Cuba. Which BTW was because America tried/did put nukes in Turkey. Guessing the leaders at the time in Canada were trying to avoid another Cuban Missile Crisis.

Doing some fast research (thanks wiki) Canada apperently did accept nuclear bombs in the early 50s and into the 60s. I didn't know that. But in the end we ended up saying no to them and sent them back. One nuke we kept didn't count because it was small and only meant for defence. A missile to nuke bombers out of the sky. So Canada never ended up having nuclear ICBMS.

But in Fallout it Canada could have remained a nuclear power, with American nukes that is
