Question about Pyandonea

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:47 pm

I've been told you guys know your stuff, so here goes:

Has there been any great descriptions of Pyandonea or its inhabitants? I'm really looking for the climate and foliage.

I'm asking because I'm considering making a TES Fan Fiction reminiscent of Mutiny on the HMS Bounty, and would really like to know what it is like, if there are any sources. I wouldn't want to mistake a Harsh desert for a tropical paradise.

Not a place even Bligh would take his ship ;) You should read http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=15282&st=0&p=2972687&#entry2972687.

I don't need an incredible description. Really, knowing that there hasn't been a lot of travel to Pyandonea or trade would help. If no men have been there and descriptions are completely dim, that makes for a better story. I can just make it up.

@jackfrost

So, are the mer hostile or something?

They sure are.

For much of Summerset's history, the Maormer have launched attacks against their sister child of Aldmeris. Every one of these battles have been led by Orgnum himself who it seems is not only immortal but grows more youthful by the century. No historian, to the knowledge of the staff of the Imperial Geographic Society, has counted the number of wars and number of strategies employed against Summerset, but somehow each has proved, no matter how ingenious, an ultimate failure.

One attack in particular is worthy of mention as it gives us our only glimpse into the actual landscape of Pyandonea. In the year 2E 486, a small Maormeri fleet was sighted off the coast of Alinor, and King Hidellith ordered his navy to give chase. The navy followed the ships through uncharted waters, into an ambush in Pyandonea itself. Most of the Alinoru navy was destroyed, but a single warship returned to Summerset to describe the land as a "sea jungle". Massive plateaus spilling over with vegetation form mazes around valleys of ocean. Waving tendrils of kelp trap all but the Maormer's own ships, and provide a well-camouflaged home for the sea serpents that are Orgnum's guards and occasional mounts. Mist storms spill over the land, further disorienting one's views. That even one ship survived the visit is a testament to the maritime genius of the Altmer.

http://www.imperial-library.info/pge/wildregions.shtml and http://www.imperial-library.info/pge3/other_lands.shtml will give you all the info on them.

And yes they could be called hostile, especially to Summerset.

Thank you very much. They sound like bigger pricks than the Altmer.

Are there any other tropical islands that WON'T kill you? With your Bligh reference I'm sure you understand what I'm trying to look for. Exotics land that look welcoming and all.

Aren't there are a few small islands between Akavir and Tamriel? I can't remember where I read this, though.

Oh, and you could also try what's left of Yokuda.

There are small islands which could serve as your setting, just about anywhere. They don't need to be 'charted'. You might be making your way to some island in the topal bay, after some malady has devastated all populations of Nibenay, and an extract from an indigenous plant of the island is the only lead the council has to go on. The eruption of argonian pogroms has fomented the zealot in your disciplinarian captain, a sailor from a landless family who despises prejudice of most kinds. It all escalates from there, your mages die in a storm, pretty, bare chested island girls; that kind of scenario. :talk:

Not sure it can be considered a pogrom as there was no bloodshed on the Bounty.

Thanks for all of the help.

You misunderstood, or I failed to get the idea across. The argonians would be persecuted, while the ship is out to see. That's what fuels the captain's drive to hurry and find the cure, at all costs, because he has a genuine disdain of prejudice.

but its yours :whisper: so good luck with it

i kinda think Pyandonea isn't much a threat nowadays, as their 'immortal' king lost his coffers in the last invasion, which was the only way Pyandonea could afford their ways. whether they still can control sea serpents or the vegetation is questionable. i'm guessing pyandonea now has 'mayan' ruins from the once prosperous cities, and now is mostly tribal with a few outposts of their past.
