Question About DK Race

Post » Tue Mar 18, 2014 5:53 pm

Hi guys,

So at launch I plan to play a Sword and Board/Destruction Staff DK with 5 Light 2 Heavy and use mostly magicka based abilities. However, I'm having some trouble choosing a race.

I wanted to play a Dunmer, if nothing else just because I like the race and it's passives seem to fit fairly well. However, around these forums I've been seeing all kinds of posts about how magicka based builds HAVE to be either a Breton or an Altmer.

I don't want to feel like I'm gimped right from the very start, and I do like to min max.

My question is this: Will I feel gimped at endgame playing a magicka based Dunmer DK? Is the difference between Dunmer and Altmer/Breton really that big?

A Dunmer would actually be pretty good for the fire damage bonus, seems like.

Altmer would be stronger. Better magicka regen and better fire damage. But in the end it will be really minor due to easy soft cap.

Dude, I am really calling it - AS "I" SEE IT - the game looks as though its more about playing how you want to play. My main character is gonna be a Bosmer Archer Tank. And y'know something? He actually seems to work well! Granted, the whole thing of Altmer being better for magicka based characters, Nords being better for tanks, and Bosmer and khajit being better for a sneaky character are kind of based more on the world itself, in the sense that in skyrim is an incredibly harsh environment, hence the Nords are strong physically, Bosmer are somewhat smaller (I think?) and are thus better for stealth and so on. But that's just the lore of the world this game is set it, the devs seemed to have found a balance between those "stereo-types" (and I use that for want of a perhaps better term) and letting people play the way they want. It's not surprising really, after all, just google "Skyrim Unarmed Badass and you'll see what I mean about indivisual player styles... Oh yeah, if btw, if you have the gold... You can just change your skills which solves all problems. LOL
