A question about replacing all textures

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 4:29 pm

Hi,

I've been looking into collecting a complete set of texture replacements but I've been wondering how to ensure I don't miss any. I won't necessarily replace them all but don't want to leave any out just because I overlooked them.

The best approach I've come up with is to extract the textures from the BSAs, pack them into a BAIN at the top of my install order and check the "Matched" pane in Bash for files that aren't overwritten.

Anyone have any better ideas?

P.S. I want to do this for Morrowind too.

Pretty much all texture replacers replace vanilla unless they are for new items. I do not see why you want to unpack vanilla texture BSA and clutter up the data folder. Just grab whatever textures you want and install them. Simple.

I'm trying to find out which vanilla textures have not been replaced by ones from mods. i.e. where the gaps in the replacers coverage is.

Makes sense but you are sure looking at ALOT of files. Your biggest replaces wiil be QTP3, Vibrant, and Lush and Gaudy. After that I think the rest are targeted for items. Is this because you are looking to make new textures? If not, I would install what you want and then if something does not look as good as you like find a replacer if one exists.

Well, it was mostly so I could grab the replacers ahead of time instead of stopping in the middle of a game to run around looking for a replacement upon seeing a bad one. I suppose I'll just have to restrain myself to taking notes while playing :)

Most everything is already replaced, sometimes it comes down to how big a replacement you want depending on your video card. There are a couple threads here already with some very full recommendations.

Just use your idea with the extracted BSA. Turn it into a BAIN, extract and install it first, placed at the top of your package list, then check for conflicts. Once every file has a higher level conflict, you've replaced every texture.
Edit: Don't even need to install it, btw.
