question about robert's slender males

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 1:20 am

hi,

i'm new to oblivion. in fact, i just ordered the game a few days ago and it will take some time to arrive.
in the meantime, i'm trying to make myself familiar with the many mods for oblivion.

anyway, my question concerns the slender body type from http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14942.
i found armor adjustments for the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14982 http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14983, following http://knotstheinane.blogspot.com/p/oblivion-modding-guide.html's guide, as well as adjustments for
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20328 http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21055, searching the net for a while.
is there a similar mod project for the slender bodies? is it even necessary? maybe they already fit well
with the vanilla meshes. i read through a bunch of readmes and tried to search google for information
about that but couldn't find any.

also, there seems to be v5 of robert's mod around the net: http://modsreloaded.com/roberts-male-body-5
is the update a source of further possible incompatibilites?

help and clarification appreciated :)

Speaking for the muscular version of the armors, in general they will work fine on the slender body; your character will just look a little bit bulkier with it on. Likewise, while the muscular armor meshes were made for the Robert v.4 body, they should work with v.5 with minimal to no problems (there weren't very many changes to the basic body in v.5)

so, the slender bodies wouldn't fit with the vanilla meshes and the best advice is to use
the robert-muscular/avarage converted equipment meshes?

Oh, most vanilla meshes will probably still work without too many problems. Though what's the point in putting in a great body mod, if you're just going to stuff it into a barrel? :D Custom armor/clothing meshes keep him looking good, with or without clothes. And you won't get the occasional ugly little vanilla bits poking out where the armor shows skin, say for instance on the arms or around the neck.

Also don't forget, not using a Stock Replacer and wearing Vanilla items technically gives you a Vanilla body mesh while wearing them. This comes with a bunch of complications, unfitting textures is only the start of, sometimes your whole body disappears even.

While it might look... acceptable on "default" races, because apart from the feet the original textures for the Vanilla bodyparts are still all present and valid, you will run into massive texture issues when equipping those items on a "custom" race without texture support for Vanilla bodies!

The Vanilla body inside those clothes will reference to 4 different texture files, one for each body part as is the case with Vanilla bodies, but only find 1, as most body mods only need this 1, (usually the "feet") using it for full-body coverage, and this full-body texture won't even fit Vanilla feet either. The other bodyparts will either fall back to Imperial skin (somewhat the default settings for unaltered race texture slots in the CS) or no texture at all.

It seems I really can't tell this often enough:
Not using Stock Replacers when using a body mod is not only "ah, I don't mind it not being a perfect fit, the shape's not that different anyways", but especially for custom races, be it NPCs or the player, it is a "game breaker"!

I've had that many people complaining about "missing textures", while they were simply not using the Stock Replacers for their bodies, on my own race mods or others' already, this knowledge really can't be spread far enough, if you ask me!

It is simply a misconception to think using Stock Replacers was "optional" or a question of one's personal taste.

well, thank you both, i'm beginning to understand what the problem is all about.

i'm not much of a custom race player, i'll stick with dunmer :) but i see your point anyway.

so, if i want to use the slender bodies, my best call would be to do so along with the average
clothing/armor stock replacers? are there still anomalies? i can imagine an npc with naked
upper body and a pair of trousers like jiub in the beginning of morrowind; would an npc like
that have a slender upper body with a mismatching (wider) trousers mesh for his lower body?
