I was reading on the UESP that the MNaskless version of the Shrouded Cowl can not be upgraded at a workbench. Doies this just mean the male version? Also, does the Ancient Shrouded Cowl have this glitch? I don't even think im going to level smithing tbh.

There really aren't male/female versions. Just how that particular item appears on males and females.

The entire ancient shrouded set can be smithed once you have the arcane blacksmith perk (doesn't have a maskless cowl version). The worn shrouded set can be custom enchanted, except gloves, but none can be smithed.
