Question about smithing

Post » Mon Oct 10, 2011 1:29 pm

Looking at the description of the smithing perks one realizes that all of them follow the same structure: able to forge X type of gear + able to improve it "by double". Since we know there will be NPC blacksmiths in Skyrim, I was wondering to what extent the equipment forged by NPCs will be worse than that forged by ourselves (assuming we are master smithers, that is).

More specifically I was wondering the following:

If we bring blacksmiths the raw materials and enough gold, can they forge us high-end weapons and armors? (like glass, daedric or the new dragon gear)

if we bring blacksmiths the necessary materials and have enough gold, can they improve those weapons and armors too (yet perhaps not as much)?

Thoughts on that?

I think that they can Improve, but not make them (Maybe they just can make the less rare, like Iron)

I dont think we know yet,but id imagine that if you invest enough perks in the Smithing skill that you will be able to make better weapons and armor than any NPC in the game.

By finding the resources and then making the equipment ourselves we can sell it to make profit.

oh so we don't know. Right. It seems pretty reasonable that by being a blacksmith yourself you will be able to do better than NPCs. Still, it would be very nice if they were able to forge you any armor/weapon (yes dragon armor, I'm looking at you) provided that you brought them the materials.

I get what your saying and have thought about that myself.I came to the conclusion that being able to pay an NPC blacksmith to make the best weapons and armor for you would kinda make the smithing skill itself pointless. So I doubt the developers will go that route. Then very few people would even bother using perks on smithing.........IMO.
