Question about the Official Skyrim Soundtrack

Post » Wed Oct 30, 2013 10:32 am

Hi,

I have been all over the net and have done countless searches to find out the answer to this question but to no avail.

On the Original recording of the Official Skyrim soundtrack what orchestra was used? All I ever see is "Music by Jeremy Soule" when there is obviously a full orchestra and chorus playing the music. Who is it?

Thanks,

Chastain Dragonsyre

Actually, a full orchestra wasn't used. It was mostly all computer instruments, with the exception of specific choir parts done by a full choir (don't know the name of the choir), and some solo instruments done live.

If you own the physical album, it will say where it was recorded and by what orchestra. If it doesn't say, then as was mentioned Jeremy produced the entire thing digitally, with some added live instruments to blend into the sound. And obviously the choir parts - mainly for the Dovahkin theme - were done by a live choir.

Pretty amazing, considering how great it sounds, eh? I'm an aspiring game composer myself and I study Jeremy's scores for Oblivion and Skyrim more than any other video game soundtrack.

I have the physical album and it doesn't mention any orchestra.

However, Jeremy Soule spoke highly about http://www.garritan.com/ about a decade ago, but no idea if he still use it. Might use some other virtual instruments now.

It's possible to do decent fake choirs with http://www.soundsonline.com/Symphonic-Choirs too.

"Beneath the Ice" or the 42.34 minutes of ambient bliss that is "Skyrim Atmospheres".

Without a formal orchestra? Is there anything this chap cannot do?

That's not really anything special these days, most composers use virtual orchestras instead of real ones.
