Question about the Story mode.

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 3:46 pm

It occurred to me today after looking at all the features of this game again and realizing the security and resistance got their own story modes, that maybe I would end up being disappointed with the length and/or quality of the campaign. I really don't look forward much to the multiplayer as I am more of a single player guy and I'm used to the great stories of Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. So I really have my fingers crossed that the campaign will keep be busy for a while. But when I think about how theres also another whole story, co-op, AND a multiplayer mode, I get worried maybe it will get stale for me quick. My brother reminded me that Saints Row 2 was able to pull all of these off and we enjoyed it for a while, but Brink looks like a much higher quality game to me. So I guess what I'm asking is... should I really be so worried?

The story will be the same playing offline or online.
If you're only playing single player, they they've said it'll take around 10+ hours to complete both security and resistance campaign.

In addition, the campaigns should have virtually the same level of re-playability as the multiplayer, due to the intelligent bots, various classes and body types, etc. Every time you play through it will be different. Different enemies, different allies, different you.

According to Mr. Wedgewood, Brink uses secret government techniques that subconsciously force you to want to play MP. Just make it easy for us, don't resist :D

You should be fine. Long campaign (which I will still try to beat on day one. If it's an FPS, I have to. Tradition) and multiplayer is the campaign......

I'll definitely try the MP out, it's just I've always been the kind of guy who loves a good, long story. But if it's just ten hours combined for BOTH, looks like i'll be playing the multiplayer more then I intended. I guess its really not all that bad though, since posting this I've been looking around at some other posts and seen a lot of guys who are actually serious about the team based multiplayer. And I'd take that any day over the sorry excuse for teamwork you see on games like Call of Duty and Halo.

Same thing for me, worried I'll get bored with the MP like how I did with TF2.

You mean 5 hours per campaign or 10 hours per campaign? Either way it's at least the length of 12 MW2 playthroughs. Seriously, though, I hope you mean 10 hours for one.

Nahh, who'm I kiddin? I've been following it for over a year now! I just hope the multiplayer and challenge modes last a reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaally long time, then.

EDIT: hold on a second, there's 2 campaigns = 10 hours, there's 3 different body types, 4 different classes to master, and a load of guns to get used to. Campaign will actually last me at least 50-ish hours. Probably more.
There's no problem :vaultboy:

They probably will, I don't have any worry of anything being really short.

Not really. Everyone does what's best for their team, on their own. Clans and parties are different though.

Can anyone answer me what is the 10+ hours gameplay and you'll only be lvl 15 roughly based on? because what if i just kept switching my classes doing all the objectives in that game for that class, then switch repeat, switch repeat, switch repeat? until the round is over and b then i must hve gone up a least a few. so im thinking that its only based on doing some sides missions (prob the average) and then the main one with random numbers of actually killing people for XP thrown in.

10+ hours of gameplay roughly level 15. Its hard to judge any of this. It comes down to your skill.

I'm not asking about skill. iam saying what if i do all the side missions for each class in that round. each ones is roughly... lets say 50XP? with many higher and lower objectives. i do all of teh objectives for the engineer, all for the soldier, and all for the operative, then just run around as the medic. all of that has to add up to something. and if i do that every round for both sides i believe that i will exceeed 14 15 or 16 as what i will reach.

If you avoid the main mission to 'farm' xp, you might end up losing out in the end because the bots/other players you're paired with won't just wait there for you to move your ass, they'll actually go out and try to complete the main objective without you. Add to that a time limit on every main objective, and you might end up running out of time to complete your mission before the bots can actually manage to get it dome...

Besides, what's the point anyway?
