A question about this "Dumbing-Down"

Post » Wed Aug 31, 2011 7:39 pm

Would you mention one or two examples? (Please), for those trying to understand both sides.

What [specifically] would make it better than Morrowind? What is the killer feature (or features) that undeniably assert its being a better game; [or I should say, better role playing game].

One example would be the fact that you can sprint, that is the "Speed" Attribute made more realistic. How many people do you see in real life who walk at 45 miles per hour? Also I used the word "may", I have not played the game yet so I cannot say for sure, therefore I can not come to a conclusion of why it "would" be better.

That's what Skyrim is doing now and you seem fine with it.

If you don't like where they are going with Skyrim. I have a great idea, you want hear it??? I will tell you, DON'T BUY IT!!!!!

If Morrowind is so much better then stop telling everybody and instead play it. Do us both a favour.

Maybe you did not but that is what you seem to be insinuating, well do you think Morrowind is the better one and do you play it? If so then I still back what I said. If not then I am sorry

1. Never played Daggerfall but loved Morrowind for its time
2. My opinion is that Oblivion is better than Morrowind only because I play it more than I play even modded Morrowind. Others like Morrowind better. More power to them. Video games are meant to be enjoyed :)
3. My opinion is that people are nit-picking, but I can't condemn anyone for it yet until I play Skyrim for myself

I think a lot of the long time TES players get attached to certain things about the previous games but do no take into account how something may actually have become deeper and not dumbed down as it would appear on the surface.

On the surface, oh nooos, they took away more attributes. Underneath the surface, a perk system that seems like it will be a lot more interesting than adding 'points' to an attribute. Would you rather modify a skill like one-handed which will give additional attacks which better represent that you are getting more skilled, or dump more points into attributes that only modify unseen numbers?

I've found a lot of the complaints to have some validity, but when you really take a broader look, a lot of the complaints come off as the stubborn old man who says, "In my day, we walked through snow, uphill, and we LIKED it!"

Goes for a lot of the 'dumbing down' complaints.

Good post. I find it more appealing to build my character via a perk tree than messing around with some attributes, how is this dumbing a game down? It's just a change.

Agreed. Especially when you consider that you pretty much knew what attributes you were going to dump points into just about every time you leveled. Not much depth involved in knowing I am going to pick INT and WIL everytime for my mage and that I never should pick athletics or acrobatics as main attributes because I can cheese my way up with them by running and jumping around like a fool everywhere I go.

On the other hand, leveling up and wondering, should I add a DOT, elemental damage, a high damage finisher.... decisions, decisions.......
