Question about a torture device's name

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:32 am

I have in my dungeon a device that is like a large rectangular frame that is attached the wall vertically. An opposing frame with interior spikes hangs on the ceiling. In RL, the top-mounted frame can be released and it impales the victim between the two frames. I don't know what this device is called, however, and I'm trying to figure that out.

If it helps, the device was featured in Disney's "The Three Musketeers" with Keifer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, and Oliver Platt. When Porthos (Platt's character) was in the dungeon near the end fighting the big ugly torture guy, he killed him in one of these devices by impaling him between the two.

Sorry - I know this is kind of a weird request but I haven't had any luck with Google or Wikipedia and figured someone on here might know.

Sounds like "pressing". But with spikes.

Peine forte et dure in French.

This is more like a vertical rack where no stretching is involved. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dy8WeMTMo68 showing the final segment of The Three Musketeers. The fight that ends with the device I'm thinking of starts at around the 3:30 mark.

Looks like an "iron maiden" variant to me.

Run to the hills.

Yep, basically it's a flat iron maiden. More like a waffle oven actually lol. The museum is closed today but I'll give it a shot later. Thanks!

EDIT: I found the script for the musketeers movie, but the whole dungeon scene isn't even in it , so if anyone knows what I'm talking about or recognizes the device in the video above, please let me know.
