Question about unarmed and progression

Post » Wed Sep 28, 2011 11:55 pm

So if we decided to go with an unarmed character? I assume it's two handed right, so we'd progress that way, but since there's no actual skills or perks associated with it, do you think the base damage will upgrade the more we use it or will it just be based off of whatever items we have. (edit*, i'm aware that they have that heavy armor perk)
And along those lines, do you think the animations would change? cause i would like to think that my character wouldn't start the game as best as he's gonna get, besides gloves. And i was so happy when i became more than a brawler in Oblivion, sure i would've loved kicks, but I'll be damned if i didn't enjoy the hand spin attacks.

It's been confirmed that hand to hand can be very powerful, and that it has some awesome finishers.

But since there's no skill tree associated with it, it looks like the only changes you'll be able to make will be increasing the damage you do.

If you choose th perk in heavy armor, the damage you deal will be in relation to the armor rating. Hth also gets finishers, and likely will still have a power attack. There also is an enchantment that one can place on gloves to increase their damage. Thats how hth fighters will be able to feel a sense of progression. The better you are at using heavy armor, the more skilled you will be with hth fighting.

It's always good to have variety, but I hope fewer NPCs use hand to hand ( love the bar brawls )

So it's a heavy armor thing? hmmm
part of me is happy that it's getting attention, but part of me finds that kinda depressing.

Isn't hand-to-hand just going to be default now, like an action game?

I guess they could've squeezed it under another skill, but that's kind've stupid in my opinion. They should've just stuck with the hand-to-hand skill. Oh well. It's their game I guess.

I just don't understand why people want hand to hand as their main fighting style...?

Satisfy? Yes. Am I happy about it in the end? Not really, but at least it's there. It's better than what many were thinking. With it tied to a skill, at least we can have a sense of progresion. It'll still feel weird because we have to take a perk for it, and even then the more damage we take while in heavy armor the better we become at martial arts. But at least it's there.

Same reason people choose axe's over swords. It's just a person prefference. I enjoy turning my character into a human weapon and making those who put their faith in tools silly.

I just don't understand why so many people don't like options... or why so many people consider any skills they personally would never use to be worthless and expendable.

Yes but part of the fun of exploring is looting new weapons and swapping them out for your old, inferior ones. At least IMO.

Because they think it's cool, and if it's already a supposedly viable fighting style there's no reason not to have a skill for it.

Ya, and I get a fair dose of that on my characters who use other fighting styles. I just enjoy putting someone in fancy armor on the ground. I like underdogs, and characters who try not to compensate for something with their gear.

It has its own perk, gloves and finishers.

A solitary perk that's attached to a skill a hand-to-hand fighter might not want to specialize in? That's some rich character progression right there.

What if I want my character to simply become more adept at fighting with their bare fists?

It's just a game..but if that's what makes you happy that's all that matters. To each their own in every TES game.

Not everything can get equal amounts of dev time. Time and budget constraints. Like Beth said, other games may do certain mechanics better and at the same time they do certain things better then other devs. The main point being at least the option is there.

What do you mean it's just a game? I enjoy pitting myself against monsters and npcs who are the top of the pack with nothing but my own two fists. It gives you a sense that you truly are powerful. Imaging walking up to a dragon and beating it with your own two fists. You'd feel like supoerman! I like that feeling.

I think their direction and priorities are a little off, but it's their game I guess.

To be honest, I never roleplay characters that fight hand-to-hand anyway... so it isn't something that directly affects me (like athletics and acrobatics).

Don't worry, when we go to Elsweyr, H2H will evolve into full blown martial arts.

Lol the sad part is, my main in morrowind and oblivion was an unarmed with acrobatics and athletics and unarmored (evven though that wasn't a skill ain oblivion)...apparently I was playing the games wrong, I'm glad they've rectified my mistakes.

I read earlier in an Eurogamer preview that you can use h2h with 1 hand and a spell in the other.
