Question for everyone...

Ok, so I've been thinking about playing WoW again. Whenever I played, I never got to 85 or even 80 for that matter, but I always had fun. The only problem is I have a VERY addictive nature. I know if I start playing again, I won't be able to stop, and I'm not sure if I want that. Feedback is appreciated.

I've decided not to start again.

Getting your money svcked away because you're addictive and won't be able to stop playing? No, you don't want that.

If you don't have anything important on the horizon then go for it.

STay off WoW. Seriously, WoW should not be played if you have anything, ANYTHING that counteracts your ability to get burned about by the grind. Just play Morrowind or Oblivion.

On the other hand, though, I love the game. It's fun, and new stuff has been added since I played.

Honestly, the other important things coming up are college and Skyrim. :P Going to a tech college, though.

Well, that's the thing, I can't decided. There are pro's and con's to both sides.

I've had my WoW account for 4 years now, but haven't been subscribed for the full 4 years (because I don't get addicted easily). I haven't been subscribed for a few months, and looking back over the years, it really was just a big waste of time.

And not on the other hand, the way you've described your addictive nature makes it sound like you won't be able to stop playing the game no matter what other things you had to do, however important. That sounds like a huge impairment to your life, which you moreover pay for. That doesn't sound like a good deal to me no matter how it's spun.

You should start playing WoW again. Cataclysm is awesome and being addicted and loving the game are two totally different things :D I love the game, but I don't consider myself addicted at all. Would I be sad if I had to stop playing, yes. Would the world end? No, I don't think so.

Then I don't recommend playing it. College out weighs WoW and Skyrim out weighs college :P

I don't see what's facepalmish about his decision. If he is as addictive as he says he is then playing WoW would seriously impair his ability to study properly.

If you have fun playing WoW, it's not a waste of your time. It's your choice, not ours.

I know you have already made your decision. But, I'll go ahead and say no, don't ever go back. That game can quite literally ruin lives, I've seen first hand what it has done to my roommate. Thankfully I get burnt out on games quick, so I never got addicted for too long when I played it, but others aren't so lucky.

Well when I first started, it was because my cousin had been badgering me about it for months. We had the 3xp bonus, and we literally played ALL summer. We bought twenty 2 Liters of coke and twenty bags of chips. Even though it was incredibly nerdy, it was really fun. Then summer ended, and I stopped playing because I don't have high speed internet. (uggghhh.... Can't get it where I am.) He was addicted for about 4 years, but quit recently. I thought he would never be able to. It was all he talked about.

WoW isn't about having fun. It dangles fun in front of you like a carrot in front of a horse and likewise never delivers.

I pretty much did the exact same thing, I started playing with my roommate last year because of the triple experience. Thankfully I got bored within a couple of months, but he has literally been playing all day every day ever since. He skips class all the time so he can stay home and play, and it got so bad that he almost got us evicted because he couldn't pay his portion of the rent. It's pretty sickening what the game can do to people.

Obviously not everyone is prone to getting addicted to it, but I've seen it enough times to know how possible it is. If you are capable of playing it, and not getting addicted then by all means go for it, it can be a lot of fun. But if there is a chance you could get addicted, I'd say do yourself a favor and play something else.

that right there should be your answer to your own question. it is good that you noticed this and can admit that to yourself and others. :)

ah, well, now that did decide not to start again, i guess now you can be sure that you don't; if you wanted to, you'd find any excuse, reason, etc, just to play again. this means whatever it is that made you think you might want to start again was: a)playing off your past likes; b)suggestive selling; c)test of your willpower... who knows what else; who knows what else. the important thing is, now you know you don't really want to, just thought that you (might, did).

its like with children and Christmas lists; they say "Mom, i want that for Christmas." but later, they say they want something else. this leaves parents frustrated, to say the least. solution? maintain list, or make one for every time when the kids mention something new. then pay attention to only items that consistently appear on all the lists or at least majority of the time. what they really want continuously appears-everything else is either whim of a moment influenced by flashy commercials or not that important. that's not to say that if your WoW pondering appears again and again means it is what you really want; just that things we really want are not always what we or others think we want. in your case, i think you just having hard time kicking the old addictive rabbit. expected, you'd not be the only one; many face the same problem, there are million of WoW players, odds are many more than you think have the same struggle you do. that's besides that fact that WoW can be under a bigger umbrella :) (for some, lack of social element, lack of achievement, belonging, community, acceptance, etc, in real life)

I've decided not to start again.
 :trophy:

now to figure out what it is in the game that is so attractive. else you'll just be going back to this same situation again and again and again. or if not this same then similar... but still one that deals with whatever it is in the game that is so attractive.
