Question for everyone who thinks the Skyrim Trailer is scrip

Post » Sat Sep 18, 2010 6:09 pm

i was just curious, could the trailer have been made the same way Rooster Teeth's series "Red vs. Blue" was made? It looks like gameplay was recorded and then viewed by a different angle. If this is even the way RvB was made, and it was possible to do with the tech that was available at that time, why wouldnt BGS be able to do it now?

im no computer whiz so sorry if this seems like a stupid question to you guys

It was probably a mix of the two, depending on what was being done.

After all, would you want to manuver your character 30+ times in a specific method with enemy AI trying to kill you until they find the best possible video?

well they could have just fought a dragon a couple times and gone back and watched the fight until they found one that looked good?

I doubt we'll actually have the player panting and slowly rising to his feet dramatically in the actual game, so yes: I believe it was done machinima-style.

Aside from Alduin's Wall, care to post timestamps of where in the video you believe the gameplay ends and the cutscene begins?

I'd imagine they have some sort of system similar to .dems.

The game records NPC movements and positions, and then you can recreate the same scene in-game and record footage from specific camera angles.

So:

A developer plays the game, fights a dragon, kills the dragon (albiet, does this all ina somewhat cinematic way) then they go back and load up the .dem (or whatever the file type is) and they go and position cameras to record what just happened. If you've played GTAIV on the PC, they have system similar to this for the in-game video editor.

I hope so. Would be friggen awesome to get for the PC version, even if your camera can only move around in the cell you are currently in. This + Fraps = win.

I know the source engine (HL2) has the ability to play dem files, and you can position the player camera if you want to do some cinmatics.. but this is all with BSP based maps so I don't know what differences there might be.. I'd imagine that Bethesda must have some sort of tool for recording NPC movements and replaying them, and I'd hope that we have the ability to do the same when the retail comes out :hubbahubba:

I reckon the dragon fight was just rendered in-game. I'm sure some of the animations have been touched up for cinematic effect.

For the montage of all the other gameplay everything looks possible (and fantastic)>

Yeah a lot of it was scripted and custom animations for the purpose of the cinematic trailer. This is coming from someone who has been making Machinima with Bethesda games for 4 years :D
