A question for people planning on playing Skyrim on PC

PURELY HYPOTHETICAL

A lot of people seem to like mods a lot, so it got me wondering: would you get Skyrim if you couldn't have mods?

Yes, but I'd be really disappointed.

This is the answer I expected from most.

Yeah, it will still look better at 1920x1080. Keyboard/mouse is a big plus. Faster loading times, higher FPS. (No loading times if installed to a RAMdisk, which I intend to do)

My 360 is just used as a small media client really.

Yeah. I still prefer playing 1st person games with a mouse and keyboard.

No. If Skyrim didn't support mods, i'd refuse to buy the game out of principle.

Yes. I do pretty much all my gaming on the PC, even though I am not interested in mods for some of the games I have.
I do totally LOVE mods in the Elder Scrolls series, and I would be disappointed if we couldn't mod the game (not that that's going to happen!) but that just isn't an issue that decides what version I am getting when I purchase a game.

What exactly does that mean?

Yes. For a very obvious reason: that's my only option.
But even if I did have a console I'd still play it on the PC because I'm a lot more comfortable with a mouse and keyboard.

No. Modding is a big part of the series and without it, I wouldn't buy the game.

Install the game to a portion of RAM. (A ton of RAM is needed, atleast enough to fit the game) Loading times on standard HDDs are within 80MB-150MB. SSDs are 130MB/s to 400MB/s usually. RAM can load at upwards of 3GB-5GB/s. http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq102/Starforce9/Storagecomparison.jpg That was between a 60GB SSD, a WD Caviar Green 2TB, a 10,000RPM Velociraptor and a 1GB DDR2 Ramdisk.

Yes.. it runs and looks better. Consoles have much cheaper hardware than a respectable PC

edit: although I have both :)

If that happened I'd get the game on the PS3 instead of the PC. It would disappoint me a ton but not to the point of not getting it.

Sadly I don't have a "respectable" pc anymore so I'm stuck with the console version. But all single player PC games should support mods. I'm happy that Bethesda has taken it a step further with the creation kit.

This actually now that I think about it mainly due to the PC UI being horrid I couldn't really stand playing 50 hours of the game without a controller although I do have a 360 controller I can use and most likely supported

First time I saw OB was my nephew showing it to me on the 360. I never gave it a second thought till I found out about the PC mod community and mods that addressed the issues that prevented my from looking deeper into the game, so I certainly would never have played OB if not for mods.

Skyrim looks to be addressing many of the issues I had with vanilla OB so hard to say.

...wow.

Yes, the only downside is that since RAM is volatile it will dump all of the data in the RAMdisk when power is lost or the PC is shutdown. Luckily the program I use has a "Save RAMdisk Image" feature.

I know it's slightly off topic, but what program do you use? I tried one a long time ago but it was limited to like 100MB.

Up to 4GB is free, more cost $15....I picked up the full version.

I hope this doesnt count as advertising.
