Question for people who liked Morrowind

Post » Thu Dec 01, 2011 6:53 am

I'm glad you found it funny. Of course my opinion is my own, and only my own. To me, Skyrim is simplistic and contains nothing like the complexity found in Morrowind. So on 'popej's scale of RPG'ness'? it rates just above Dragon Age 2.

Each to their own.

agree with you, popej.

Skyrim is a great game on its own, and (for me) a lot better than Oblivion was. Morrowind? Different kettle of fish, but close, really close. When I roamed around dungeons filled with draugrs, stood on the steel-grey beach of northern sea and, of course, grew fur, I got strong Bloodmoon vibe. And I really-really liked Morrowind's Bloodmoon :)

What can I say, I'm a Nord :)

I loved Morrowind played it for 7 years straight. I especially loved the Bloodmoon expansion, which takes place on Solstheim. I Hated Oblivion, only played it with mods. But I love Skyrim. I love the interactivity with many objects, such as forging and cooking. In many ways it reminds of a hybrid between morrowind and Gothic 1&2. The world is much more vibrant than oblivion, and to me it feels much bigger. (Maybe because I don't fast travel).

The story is much better.

Also I like the random encounters you have while traveling the wilds.

Also Nords are my third favorite race, behind the Dunmer and Altmer. I love Nordic culture, it reminds me of ancient Germanic and Celtic cultures. And Talos has always been my favorite divine, he reminds me of Julius Caesar.

Lastly I think the character generator is great, you can add scars, warpaint, and dirt to your character.

Morrowind was my introduction to the elder scrolls, i played the ass off during my college years and loved it. I agree that it holds a certain nostalgic value to it, as i reinstalled it earlier this year and it just didnt have the same feel, the enjoyment wasnt there.

I wasnt that fond of Oblivion, it was okay but it seemed to be lacking a lot of the soul Morrowind had. I played it, i beat, i put it down. I think its too early to form a truley rounded judgement on Skyrim but so far it is really good fun; seems to have that feeling Morrowind had, coupled with the best features of Oblivion, rounded off well with all its own stuff. So far i feel like this is the game Oblivion should have been.

My first Elder Scrolls game was Morrowind, and I still think it was the best.

Skyrim is good fun, but it's just not as challenging as Morrowind.

I remember when I started Morrowind I got killed a LOT, by all sorts of people and creatures. In my first session with Skyrim I cleared one dungeon, gaining 5 levels and not getting killed once! I finally got killed for the first time last night by a giant....So, yeah, Skyrim is good fun, but it's been dumbed down a lot.
I don't like the damage model, it's too simplistic (especially after playing Fallout NV in hardcoe mode!) I also don't like the fact that weapons and armour don't wear out, looking after your gear took a bit of thought in Morrowind.

But overall, Skyrim is very good to look at and good fun to play. But it's a bit borderline for me as to whether I'd call it a true RPG....

I would disagree. In Morrowind, you got killed a lot starting out yes unless you packed a shed of load potions or avoided certain areas. But once you passed a certain point, well the only problem you had was facing Vivec or that Orc chappy.

I agree with your thoughts on Skyrm, i started off and gained a bunch of levels in my first dungeon without dying. But since then, and i think it may be down to not figuring everything out, i get my ass handed to me quite often if take on a small group or higher level creature. I've died quite a lot thus far.
