A question for PC players (and Console players?)

Post » Sun Mar 31, 2013 1:10 am

So I got Skyrim on PC and I like to roleplay and give my character a backstory. So my character has been training in magic for years so when I got into Skyrim and made him, I used the console commands to raise his Destruction, Illusion, and Alteration to about 50 because it makes sense if he has been training in those schools for years.

So does anyone else on PC do this? Or do you consider it cheating? I kind of do, but at the same time I think it does make sense from a roleplay perspective.

For console players that roleplay, would you do this for your characters if you could on console?

i like starting from scratch naked and fearless, i wouldn't use the console for this if i could(im a ps3 player) however i see no problem with giving yourself a little boost in the begining. if it makes more sense for your rp than more power to you!

Alright thanks Austin Powers! :D But yeah, only with a few characters would I do this and that is if they have had extensive training in a skill prior to Skyrim.

Do whatever you want. Don't let other influence what you do.

I don't see any problems with that.
If you want to start your character as a badass, then why not? :D

And this is his world. Wayne's World, some might say.

On topic: Go ahead. It's your character, and your RP. If he is good in magic, then it would make sense that he has skill in it.

Well, I just wanted to know if it was something others did, or would do from a RP perspective because I do think it helps, but it does feel like cheating a little bit.

I know, but I always think of him as Austin Powers.

I do it depending on my rp. It just doesn't make sense to be a lvl 1 if I rp my character as a seasoned warrior or the like.

Just do what you like, but take into account it's going to affect your leveling speed

If I were to do that, then I would lower as much as I can some of the warrior related skills as a trade off. But that's just me :)

I dont see nothing wrong with it. If it helps with roleplay then do it.
Personaly I find the http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9557 and http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16736 essential for roleplaying.
Take a look if you are interested and dont have them already

I would for Restoration. Have never gotten that one past 75 even when using it heavily.

I think it would be interesting to start in 1 in all magic if that's possible. Don't know if it is as I'm a console player with no much knowledge about the game and it's mechanics.

No I would not even if I had a good pc instead of this crap pile. Mods and console commands are cheating and not what I do, I like playing the game as it is supposed to be enjoyed.

I've always felt that you cannot cheat on a single player game because you are not competing against anyone. You are simply playing YOUR game the way that is most enjoyable to you.

Using the console to upgrade your stats defeats the immersion and RP nature of the game.
