Doesn't help with load times. It does the opposite. But it can clear up some minor glitches or bugs. It's basically like a reboot of sorts..

It deletes all your patches so you can dupe one million diamonds in oblivion.

Clearing the cache on your Xbox is kind of like clearing your cache on your computer. It makes things run a little smoother if you have had the Xbox a very long tim, reduces load times on certain games, but it also clears all patches/downloaded installed content.
Like, I had this character in Oblivion once that was full SI geared from SI, had every quest complete etc, I cleared my cache, then tried to play that character..lol. Yeah. Nah. Lets just say my game crashed almost instantly everytime I tried to play that character again even after re-installing SI.

Clearing the cache is only something you want to do if you have a specific reason for it.

The only time I ever had to do that was when Bioshock first came out. The game played fine for the first few hours then every 10 seconds or so the game would hickup for a second. Cleared the cache and that made everything good. Never had to do it since then.

From what I have read, make sure you have an interent connection ready when you clear the cache otherwise you will be in for a big surprise when things start not to work. If you have an internet connection, then you have nothing to worry about. Or so they say.

It can clear updates, so you can glitch your game, or it can fix some glitches.

Stop poking fun.

Clearing the cache does not impact patches or DLC. I've done it more than once and never saw any of my DLC vanish over it.

Cache is just a area of HDD space used to store commonly accessed files. After a while, it gets too cluttered to be productive as it should be.
