Question: How to find out a settlement is attacked?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 6:42 am

Hello,

title says it all: I have only around 10 settlements, character is level 25.

I had several attacks, and yes, not all settlements have full defense values (food + water). So it is okay that there are attacks.

But:

  • Only once did I see the message in the upper left corner - it is much too short to read if one is fighting or concentrating on other things. (Can the duration be adjusted somewhere?)
  • I tried to hear the radio from the base
    Spoiler
    The Castle
. Now this is useless... I had a severe attack from 4 Gunners running, and while I tried to protect my settlement and was nearly killed in the fight, the radio said '..all is quiet, as we like it..'.
  • What sometimes seems to work: Look often in the Pipboy under Quests/Misc - there you should see the protect your settlement entry. But not always it seems.

I have a new and very small settlement, and suddenly I saw in the Pipboy under Data/Workstations that there were zero settlers! I traveled to the settlement, and something happened there, but I do not know what: There is a family (Father, mother and child) and they were there. No enemies, but I had 2 turrets and both of them were damaged, and the water pump and the plants were destroyed. I could repair the pump and the plants, and I could repair the turrets. But what happened? No message at all, no enemy bodies, nothing...

This happened two times in my game. Another settlement was shown in my Pipboy with zero settlers to, this was Tenpines, and I had only two people and weak defenses there. So I feared the settlement was destroyed. I had something to do, but around a day later (in game time) I arrived - all was well, two settlers, and the small installations were all well. Wrong Pipboy display?

Question: What do you recommend? Any ideas how to better manage this? I do not want to run around checking my Pipboy quest list every minute, and the messages are not dependable! The pop up message can easily be overlooked, and I think that it is not always sent, and the radio does not react to such events. Only twice I was able to react to a message, one time I did see the pop up message, and another time (I just began to play and loaded from a save) I saw no pop up, but received 'failed to help the settlement' message around 30 seconds after I started to play. So I restored from the start, and the message sat in my Pipboy under Quest/Misc. So I fast traveled and could help successfully.

Two times a settlement was attacked while I was already there.

Is this a bug, or a weakness, or do I overlook something?

Thanks.

Build enough defense in all the settelmets - defence exceeding settlers (settlers plus food to be sure), and rebuild after an attack.

I have heard rumers that a message appears on the screen but have never seen it. I have heard radio message when at the castle, although not about attacks in prgress; just settelments asking for help and kidnapped family members.

A message should appear on screen about "X" settlement is under attack and needs assistance.

And after you get that short msg in your top left corrner it will always mark it in your quest log under misc quests.
