Question regarding "guns"

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 4:53 pm

Alright. I am re-making a character in FO3, to continue into New Vegas once i'v leveled it up. I am wondering about how well 'guns' are in New Vegas without uniques // the later on weapons.

I mainly ask this because, I noticed I never found anything better than a Service Rifle (I don't want to know where stuff is, just making a statement here), even while exploring alot of different area's. I found the Automatic Rifle in Dead Money, however as far as i' concerned, that DLC is crap and I refuse to subject myself to it for that gun. However, I never really did alot of damage via the regular guns (Cowboy Repeater, Service Rifle, etc) regardless of my guns skill. Granted, I didn't continue past level 12 because I just couldn't stand how weak my damage was in hardcoe mode when my enemies are taking me down faster, when 80% of their shots don't even hit me. I figure i'd eventually stumble across some decent guns through more exploring, but I know this isn't guarentee'd and I know it wouldn't be until a bit later in the game.

(For the record, on my EW character, I found 3 unique EW weapons through exploring, and they were lovely compared to anything else).

(Also, I do remember having "The Gun" from Novac but, I don't feel like running around with a hand-cannon as my only source of damage. Makes me feel like a [censored] when my handgun makes bad-guys explode.)

Making a FO3 character to level into NV?

My head hurts..

Sorry, I forgot people on the internet don't take a few minutes to try to understand something that was typed.

I want to.
Make a character.
In fallout 3.
Once i'v finished Fallout 3 with said character.
I will use my IMAGINATION.
To play said character.
In Fallout New Vegas.
I will use my IMAGINATION.
To pretend my character in new vegas came from DC from Fallout 3.
He will of been shot in the head doing a quest.
And he will of lost his abilities and memory of everything.
My IMAGINATION will help me do this.

Better?

How far geographically did you get in your NV playthrough? There are better weapons than the Service Rifle all over the place.

There are a wide range of good guns, for example, the Riot/Hunting shotgun, the AMR, the Trail/Brush gun, etc.

Don't forget plasma defender, Gauss Rifle, heavy incinerator, 22cal SMG w/HP smmo, sniper rifle w/silencer, AP ammo, carbon fiber parts and scope, hunting rifle with 308 AP ammo and scope, even the Ratslayer w/ silencer, scope, and AP ammo will do in any ghould except a reiver. Don't recall which levels, but definitely further along than 12.

You can dominate will the conventional fire arms in fo nv once your gun skill is high. With armour piercing rounds you don t even need the best firearms. A service rifle, scoped hunting rifle, LMG with ap when needed, and a 12 gauge shotty with slugs are all you really need.

The better conventional firearms will make you even more dominate.

The Cowboy Repeater sometimes drops from Legion, and you can end up with one at lvl 3 or 5. It's a much better weapon than the service rifle at the lower clvls. Then the sniper, and all the others already mentioned etc. I'm surprised you didn't find anything better by level 12. Luck of the random draw perhaps. And yes, your skill level has a big effect. When you're lvl 5 w/a guns skill of 35 (or less if you didn't tag it) nothing is going to seem uber - you'll miss a lot more, do less dmg, etc etc.

Only used EW in the Dead Money DLC. In HC mode the weight of MFCs is crushing. The weight of 100 MFCs will get me 232 .44 magnum, or 153 .45-70 Gov't rounds...It's basic math here.

Guns are all I ever use and I never have any problem beating the game. You'll do fine.

Ew are worse than guns in almost every aspect and you have to be the hulk to carry the ammo :cryvaultboy: .Atleast new patch will help.

You must not have searched much. And if you found the Holorifle in Dead Money, it's easily one of the three best weapons in the game. Easily.

It depends on what you mean by 'later on weapons', but generally, guns kick [censored] in NV if you're properly specced. The cowboy perk in particular means you can dominate with all sorts of lever-action rifles and revolvers, from the humble cowboy repeater to the mighty trail carbine and brush gun. Even without the cowboy guns, you've still got the sniper rifle, hunting rifle, assault and marksman carbines, various shotguns and smgs... even the varmint rifle can be useful with a scope and silencer attatched. The service rifle's awful, but don't let that put you off guns as a whole.
