question regarding the smaller factions

Post » Sun Aug 22, 2010 8:53 pm

As I am always rooting for the underdog, I have decided I want to win a weak faction's allegiance, and to try to lift them to complete control of the New Vegas area. But is this actually possible? Are Mr. House, CL, and NCR the only ones that can take over? Can the powder gangers specifically take over? I ask you.

We have no way of knowing until the game is out, but I highly doubt they could. You can probably help them get more power, but actually taking over the Mojave like House/NCR/Caesar? I wouldn't get my hopes up for that.

I doubt it. You can probably sway them to join you (and switch allegiance to whatever primary faction you're running with) so they'll reap some benefits themselves in the end but the main factions are the only people with the power to change the Mojave wasteland at this time and place, they are the power players.

It was stated awhile back in one of the reviews that if choose to, you help the Powergangers take over that small town you start in. Giving them dominance in that area. I suppose you could go about helping a few of the smaller factions gain controll over their area. In that sense a "win" for the little factions would mean as a combined group, they'd controll about 30 - 50 % of the Mojave area. (My percentages are just a guess, since noone has played the game yet.) This type of "win" would be a personal type achievement, since I doubt the game would recognize it as a win of any type. Still it would be an interesting goal to play for, and I'll try for that type of "win" in one of my many replays for the fun of it.
Great take on roleplaying, Thanks taxidermicx.

Edit; As Dr. Chaos pointed out, you would need to bring the little guys into the camp of one of the major players if you wanted them to survive.

That is a very good question, and I think they can "win" in their localized area if you help them out. But I suspect there will be a limit to how far any of the minor factions can or will expand and at that point they would have "won". But I don't think the minor factions will take over major faction territory in their entirety, I don't think there will be Enough of the minor factions to control that much territory - and especially not the strip.

Well in the overall scheme of things they might not have a huge effect (although I can be wrong)
but with the ending slides I'm sure they give you a good idea of how they are doing after you support them.

I hope that by helping the factions under the big three it will effect the outcome of the ending slider.
So that by helping NCR win and not helping any smaller faction it will show a certain ending for NCR, while if you help Powder Gangers it's going to be different and by helping Khans it will change even more and if you help both PG and Khans then the ending will be vastly different.
NCR may have won the big battle but due to other events their future is going to be dark if you help the smaller factions and bright if you focus on only helping NCR.

That may depend on which small factions we help though - helpingt h eFollower sof th eApocalypse isn't likely to be aproblem for th eNCR, for example... I hope it's the way you describe things though :D .

Thanks for sharing everyone :tops:

I have a much better perspective on how I want to play, I think I'll persuade the powder gangers to join NCR.

Now if only my gamestop had a midnight release

That wouldn't make sense because powder gangs are ex NCR prisoners so I doubt they would join up.

But yeah thats a nice basic idea to go by. Team up and working together.

Be nice to see smaller factions working together or establishing trade as long as it fits in with their lore and ideas.

Like the Boomers and the Gunrunners would make a nice team up pointed out in the 'New Vault' thread.

Be cool to see Jackals working under CL or something.

And the Followers of the Apocalpse creating more ties with NCR or a nearby town faction.

Well Sawyer said in the video that whatever faction you choose to help, it will make a big difference in the story. So I gotta assume that is you help a minor faction, they will rise to some sort of importance.

But so far, I dont really now what i want to do. If Ceasars Legion is Rome-y enough, I might go that path. If not, its either find a little faction I like or embrace the anarchy :mohawk:

Meh, it would be nice if they could "win," but I think thats a bit TOO indepth. It would take forever to do all the main questlines.

I think it would be great if the player could get all the minor factions to join togeather to support the player to take over.

I wonder what sort of results helping the BOS and the NCR will have - both are enemies (well, currently anyway), so if you help them both, maybe it'll jsut worsening the conflict in the end.. <_< .

Cheers to that idea.

See CL and NCR and NV Police Department duking it out and over the horizon a mix of factions led by the Courier come in to take out the weakened forces. A bit Hollywood but it would be fun to watch that fight.

"People of the wasteland! You've been enslaved by the Legion! You've been shoot at by the NCR under the pretense of 'Peace'! You've been robbed of your money by Mr House and his cheating ways! Will we stand for this? No! No more! Today is the day when we throw out these bastards who only care about their own interests, not the interests of the people of the wastes! Today is the day when we kick their arses!!! Everyone with me! ATTACK!!!"

While I personally agree and like the idea of helping out the underdogs, it would aslo make the game unbalanced. You cant really have organizations like the Powder Gangs going up agains well armed trained NCR and hoping to win. They wouldn't have the resources even with the couriers help. They are probably there as filler to give you a few side quests or whatever.

I can't wait to see Fallout 5.
If New Vegas is as in-depth and as amazing as I imagine, then in about 5 years the Fallout of that generation will be simply mind-boggling.
Atom, I think it would be like in F3, when the slavers fought the slaves, the slaves who were attempting to fix the Lincoln Memorial died because they were weaker.

Well now, it's true that no single small faction could win - because, as you say, they're underequipped and have less manpower and resources than the big guys. But an alliance of sorts of the small factions like mumatil suggested could work - the BoS could be the heavy troopers/infantry, the Great Khans the light infantry, the Followers of the Apocalypse the medics, etc... And of course, you forget that the PC is a factor here too! We can give'em better equipment AND we can spearhead any attacks, thus keeping loses to a minimum even in the face of a numerically and technologically superior enemy, just like in many of the cases in FO3 (like the slave attack, as Ozzyschach suggested - normally, the formers slaves will lose, but with you helping them, it's another matter).

It seems fairly unlikely that a group of Elvis impersonators or a gang of dynamite throwing railroad workers would be able to take out the NCR or Caesar's Legion just because of the immense size of those factions and the technology/better trained and vast amount of troops they have to call upon. (Even with the Courier leading these small factions I doubt it'd be much trouble for the NCR or CL to wipe them out rather out easily.) So I'm guessing that in no way, shape, or form will they be able to usurp much control over anything in the game, they're small factions for a reason after all. :tops:
