-={Question}=- Texture Modding ?

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 1:46 am

Hello And Thanks For Clicking my Topic

I have a very important question about Texture Modding I would Like to Completely Mod The Whole Game Textures
I've already downloaded Bsa Commander ... Bsa Unpackers And Mod Manager
I Unpacked This File Oblivion-Textures-Compressed.bsa And Finished Modding it

Now My problem Is How do I pack Up The Texture Folder That i extracted And moded? When I open up Bsa Commander there is a pack option But it ask me to pack a.bsa File And all the Pictures are .dds
Im New to Modding Oblivion Game And Would Really Appreciate Some help With This

Best regards Jedaprin :obliviongate:

You don't need to pack it back up - if you unpacked it into the correct directory, it will work in game.

If you do want to pack it:
1) Open up BSA commander
2) Click the "Pack" button
3) Type the archive name, including its path (so, for instance, C:/games/Oblivion/New.bsa)
4) Select the source directory, i.e. the folder in which your textures are placed (for instance, C:/Games/Oblivion/Textures)
5) Select appropriate flags. I think these are set by default.
6) Click pack.

In the future, please refrain from using weird sizes, colors, and other fluff. Its hard to read.

If you're just texturing (changing the textures on standard Bethesa models), your textures need to be located in the same directory as they were originally. Although subfolders will vary, all textures are in Data/Textures. Textures placed anywhere else will not work. When bsacmd unpacked the archive, it should have preserved the folder structure - just move all that into the Data/Textures directory. If you're just changing textures, you won't actually need an esp file.

You say it must be in the Same Directory Wich it Is

For This To Work Properly I will Have To Replace The .BSA Texture File In the Same Directory And the File is 1.9 gb Big

Im just making Sure because I dont wanna Have to do this twice

You should save with mipmaps or the textures won't work for people that set their texture size to medium or small. You don't litterary have to replace the file inside the BSA, it can just remain there. Just make sure that your own texture uses the same folder structure and filename.

Its Just Kinda Confusing Ive Modded Call Of Duty And Comabt Arms Fps Games And Those Were Easy to Mod
Modding This Game Is Different Because Of .Esp File Wich Kinda Dependant On Other Files

The .Esp File Confuses Me Because its Kinda Like a Save Game Sorta With Everything Attached

My Basic Goal Is To Completely Change All Of The Game Textures
And Its Not Like I can Change All the textures And Create an .Esp File

I Need To Change Everything Inside Of The .Bsa File To Change the Whole Game Texture Right
Im Like 10% Certain This Is the Way to Do it

I Understand That The Folder Structure Is Critical For the Game to Work Properly And I never Knew About Mip Maps Thanks For The Help Man Much Appreciated

Im going to Save the Files As 3d Mip Maps I Got A Question Sometimes When I Save A File IT Sais " Saving Will Loose Alpha Graphics " something Like that do u know what that means ?

You Don't Need To Capitalise The First Letter Of Just About Every Word In Your sentences. The lack of punctuation doesn't help either. Getting your requests for help as legible as possible is the first step to receiving the help you want.

Might I direct you to the http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Portal:Texturing. That should have all the info you need to get started.

Hm, I get the feeling you are mixing things up now and than. I strongly recommend doing some reading at http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Main_Page, it has tons of information for beginning modders so you will at least have some basic knowledge before continueing.

No - the game will use the new textures from the Data\Texture folder instead of the BSA if they have a newer file date so you do not need to replace the ones in the BSA.

Yes you do want to save the textures with at least 4 levels of Mipmaps (OB uses 4 levels for the various resolution sizes of the textures -

Losing the Alpha channel info error means that you are saving the texture in a format that does not save the alpha channel information (which means that all of your normal maps will just have a pure white alpha chanel and be very shiny in game and also that any partially transparent textures will be messed up as well ( the game uses the alpha channel of the .dds texture for transparency info and the alpha channel of the normal map for light reflectivity so you need to save them in DXT3 or DXT5 to keep the alpha channel info !! ( For this game most .dds textures will be DXT1 format to save filesize since the alpha channel info is not needed unless dealing with transparency ( in whiich case they should be DXT3 or DXT5) and all of the normal maps should be saved in either DXT3 or DXT5 because you need the alpha channel for reeflectivity of light !
