A question on Thalmor plans

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 2:53 am

When explaining about Alduin and the prophesied end of the world, Esbern quips that the Thalmor don't want the world destroyed either -- then adds, at least, they want the world destroyed on their own terms.

I would guess that most of the Thalmor's regular soldiers and lower-ranking officers just see this as a mundane power struggle with some morale-boosting slogans about Aldmer supremacy thrown in, and that it's mostly just the upper tiers who understand that they literally intend to uncreate Mundus. It seems as if the Blades understood that, given Esbern's comment.

I've been speculating that the Mede dynasty tends to see things in exclusively mundane terms, lacking or underestimating the importance of counsel from those with more insight into the mythopoetic basis of the Empire and of Mundus.
I agree. It's probably just the big bosses who know the extent of their intentions to erase humanity.

As I said above, the Blade scholar Esbern says that the Thalmor want to destroy the world, and when the Thalmor wizard Ancano is using the Eye of Magnus, he says, excitedly, that he could use it to destroy the world.

That doesn't confirm the apocrypha in detail, but is certainly consistent with it.
And if Many-headed Talos can be put into game instead of just explicitly stating previous implicit ideas, why can't the same happen here?

He wanted to make it - he didn't necessarily want to be trapped in it in the process. Remember that the Heart of Lorkhan is Evil by nature, which should tell you something about Lorkhan itself. Now by my theory, the divines didn't want to trap anyone else but Lorkhan, so they managed to give the inhabitants who were caught by accident a way out.
... what!? The Heart of Lorkhan isn't evil. Nothing in TES is "evil by nature," who put that foolery into your head? You're too good for that sort of foolery, get rid of it. The Heart is something important left behind in creation. The Altmer think Lorkhan is evil for tricking them out of their supposed birthright of divinity, but nobody else seems to think so. Nirn is not a trap, it's a tunnel and only a few people thought to look forward. Because it's easier to escape a tunnel than a blob of infinitely malleable potential energy in semi-physical form.

I think the belief that the Heart is evil comes from theories about how Dagoth Ur was able to steal the power of the Heart from the Tribunal, that his evil nature was more in tune with the Heart. I'm not sure there is anything backing that.

Is the Thalmor plan to erase man from possibility mentioned in game?I was under the impression it was and I had just not found it yet.

Thank you in advance
Bethesda all but referred to that text in game. Erasing Talos is on the checklist.

On the Daedra worshiping rumor.
I believe Summerset isle was relatively unscathed during the Oblivion crisis I was wondering if the Thalmor are the ones who took up Daedra worship.
The daedra ,I believe, could be the ones behind the void nights. Both taking them away and bringing them back.

If the Thalmor plan succeeds would it affect the Daedra. As I understand it they do not want to undo everything just reset it to a point they find more favorable.

No, Summerset Ilse got hit HARD. Crystal Tower, or Crystal-Like-Law, was destroyed by the forces of Mehrunes Dagon, as described in "The Rising Threat"

And no, the Thalmor would not be daedra worshipers, they're waaaaay too fanatical to stoop to such levels. And they do want to bring everything back to what it used to be, but also remove the possibility of Mundus ever happening again. To do this, man (as an ideology), Talos, and Shor/Shezarr/Lorkhan needs to be removed, then bring back The Dawn.

I'm curious about those rebellious youths we heard about in Oblivion. Would like to know whether or not the Thalmor have stomped them out yet.

In at least one account the commanding general of the Thalmoor army was carried off by a winged daedra after being captured.I know the Altmer think they are ever so clever could they be playing some sort of angle with the Daedra

I dunno, I found the paleography lecture on Carolingian Minuscule to be a real hoot and holler.
