Question that will probably have an obvious answer

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 5:44 am

I'm trying to instal OOO 1.33 using its standalone installer, but everytime I try it tells me that 'Extract: error writing to file 2HWoodenMauler_n.dss'

... Can someone tell me what this means please and how to solve it?

How obvious is the answer? (Out off 5... or 10)

Don't use the installer. Use the OMOD version or the manual version and BAIN it.

Are you sure the file extension is .dss? That's not a valid file type - it should be dDs (as in, texture file). And yeah, many people have had issues with the installer - it's best to either use an OMOD or BAIN format, or just manually install it.

I've tried the OMOD version first tbh, but OMOD keeps on crashing everytime I use it... through I might reinstall it and see if it works then...

But just in case... do you know how to the get the manual version?

Its more then likely dds and I just made a mistake typing it up.

Ummm... I'm trying it with the OMOD version and its telling me three Error in scripts...

'Invalid argument to function 'InstallDataFolder' Folder 'meshes\'/'sound\'/'textures\' is not part off this Plugin on line 97/98/99'

What does that all mean?

Replying in the same thread [possibly avoiding that freaking yellow font] might be helpful.

WTH IS WITH PEOPLE!

Holidays?, or the people who know of your problems havent been in lately and doing other things?

the title of your topic does not grab an OOO users attention really.

Personally I cant be a help here I dont use OOO but try just being patient, or post in an OOO thread.

Hot topics usually get an answer within minutes, OOO, not sure. Sometimes a question can take a couple of days to get a response.

A better place for your questions and knowledge search would have been here http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1205674-relz-oscuros-oblivion-overhaul-133/

I found it on the second page of the mods forum at time of posting this. Chill, polite, detailled, what tools and versions you are using, have you installed the game outside of UACs protection so you dont get admin/permissions problems with the tools which also have to install in the oblivion installation folder ... all such information may be useful to solving your problems.

Good luck.

Couple of more helpful links http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/449239-oblivion-mods-faq/ the FAQ in this same forum.

Bookmark your questions too to easily find them. Topics on this forum are closed after 200 posts, but usually have a NEW THREAD link at the end of them.

In the top right of your post is the post number, #1 for instance if you right click on it and choose Copy link Address and paste that into a new tab url bar you will go straight to that post for instance http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1216290-question-that-will-probably-have-an-obvious-answer/page__view__findpost__p__18232740

If you reply my post you will see how that link is made.

Indeed, custom colors are not helpful. That yellow color is almost illegible to people who use the IPboard skin.

What I did was just get the installer version, install it to a separate folder, then (after creating an archive backup) manually install it from there.

You might have run into the "Path too long" problem. Windows does not support paths longer than 255 symbols and therefore can`t install files that would need more symbols. This can happen with the Steam version of Oblivion and mods that have a lot of subfolders with long names like OOO. If nothing else helps try to install Oblivion as close to C: as possible.

To get the archive version of OOO visit PES http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3953. Download "OOO_133_Complete.7z" and "OOO_134_Beta_5_Patch.7z" and you have everything you need.
