Question on the 64bit .exe

Post » Fri Oct 09, 2009 12:29 pm

Hi everyone!

So I am going to pre-order Crysis 2 but have a little situation.

Way back when Warhead came out I bought the game on Steam. Unfortunately the Steam version of the Crysis games does not have a 64 bit .exe.

So my concern is if let's say I pre-order off of Direct 2 Drive will I have the 64 bit exe to take advantage of my 64 bit OS? Or is it only going to be on the disc.

-Thank you and I'm sorry if this has been asked before.

Crysis 2 will have both 32 and 64 bit support at launch, but I'm not sure about digital downloads.

the Steam version of the Crysis games does not have a 64 bit .exe..
Is the Bin64 in the Crysis Warhead folder?, it should be, if it is, go in there and create a desktop shortcut from the Crysis.exe not the Crysis64.exe, then right click on the desktop shortcut and scroll down to properties and in the target line type in -DEVMODE. Running the game from that shortcut will play warhead in 64 bit.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis WARHEAD\Bin64\Crysis.exe" -DEVMODE

AFAIK, the 64-bit exe for Warhead was only added through the patch.

But it's commonly known, that Steam doesn't distribute the 64-bit exes for games, because the Steam overlay doesn't work properly with 64-bit programs.

That's why I pre-ordered the disc version :)

Steam overlay doesn't work properly with 64-bit programs.
I didn't know that, steam needs updating itself then.

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous that the worlds biggest PC DD site doesn't cooperate with 64 bit =/

Why I now check what games have a 64 bit exe. If they do I don't buy them off Steam. Was just curious if this applies to other DD sites. I contacted D2D and hopefully will get a answer soon.

I want to get it from that site because it's $5 off and I have a 20% coupon code I can use as well.

I'm so excited for the game. Can't wait for that demo and finally release!

That's because 32 bit programs are compatible with a 64 bit OS.

Steam doesn't seem to allow for the 64 bit versions of games yet though. I'd imagine that was fixed though or is likely going to be fixed soon.

EDIT: Steam has supported 64 bit since august 2010, so 64 bit games since then will likely come with the .exe
