Question to the RP Forum (plus an RP idea)

Post » Mon Aug 27, 2012 8:58 pm

i'm just wondering whether anyone would join a RP created by someone EXTREMELY new to the RP forums

if no then your free to leave now

if yes then here's an RP idea i'm extremely open to any advice i'm given

Spoiler
i don't have many details on it yet but
i'm thinking of a new dark brotherhood sanctuary in any continent (probably cryodiil or skyrim since that's where we've seen the brotherhood in game) but i'm thinking of making it mainly, controlling a character through different assignments that the leader of the sanctuary (me) would give to all the characters. So there it is possible for ALLOT of interaction in the sanctuary or in a group assignment, it is also possible for there to be nearly no interaction with nearly ALL solo assignments.

I would give a small description of where your going and the name of your target, if i feel like it i can also give out "bonuses"
but i'm not going to allow you to complete every single bonus i give you since i'm going to make it something your character isn't good at.

an example would be i would give a warrior character a stealth mission so it inst completely impossible but it will be difficult. So your character will be posting an attempt to get the bonus i will decide whether or not you've earned it (if i even decide to give you an option that is)

Also i intend on using the ranking system from in-game and posting your ranks in each new RP AND OOC thread

That's all i've got for this RP idea i will take suggestions and if this gets enough popularity ill make it a new RP since i don't see many new ones its all side-stories of older Rps or Rps in their 20th thread

So what i'm asking here is if anyone is interested in letting someone fairly new here host an RP and if the RP idea of posted is any good

(i'm not completely new i know what i'm doing when RPing but iv'e never hosted one before)

PS: i'm accepting character sheets if you care to make one here's the way i want the sheet

All you need to do is get a couple GMs and you'll be fine. I would be willing to GM if you want me.

As for the story I like it, I think it would benefit from a plot that complemented or included the contracts. The only thing I dont like much is the ranking bit then again I immediately deny all RP stats. Who knows, you may be able to pull the stats off successfully.

I'd be interested in joining, very interested actually. Of you need any help send me a PM. :)

thanks for the response, i might throw the ranking system and just call all of you "assassins" if no one wants me to use it, but in-game there was only one leader of the sanctuary, if i find any problems i could ask you though, remember i haven't thought very thoroughly about the plot, i could give each character a sub-plot based on the contracts i give them

i'm glad you like the idea i hope everyone else does to =)

Alright.

So will you accept CSs yet (I don't see why it would be a problem). And if so can I get a CS format?

It's an interesting idea. Just make sure you're ready to host an RP before you go diving headlong into it. Sit back for a week or two and write up all you can think of that will pertain to the RP before even starting the actual RP thread. I made the mistake of jumping into my own RP too fast, and even though I wrote up at 3,000 word opening post it ended up not being enough for the scale of RP I was creating. That forced a few of the other RP'ers and myself to have to backtrack and set things up the proper way. Make sure you have all the basics down, setting, plot, theme, and all the other "useless" crap you learned in English class. Then go deeper than that.

This has potential, and with a little work I'm sure it'll be a great RP. Good luck man.

I can barely keep my RP running as it is now. :P

It's my senior year this year so I've had my hands full with college applications, scholarship papers, and all kinds of other junk. If you need any help getting things together though, don't hesitate to shoot me a PM.

Thirty might be a bit unrealistic, we don't have that many RPers about. Your best bet is to cultivate a core group of RPers that you can rely on to keep your RP going strong instead of relying on having a great number of people. You'll notice the longest running RPs tend to have a strong group of maybe five or so RPers whos dedication really keeps it going.

edit: PFA, I'm the most helpful guy around here, stop trying to but in on my turff :glare:

Yes that might be true but fangs of the tsaeci died from low amount of players even though the few who remained were strong RPers
Looking back on valton the new hold there is a decent amount of people still playing and most of them a strong

Thats not exactly what I meant. Having alot of RPers is great for certain, but it doesn't do you any good if you attract a bunch and then them pick up roles then half drop out which leaves you scrambling trying to pick up the pieces, especially when you were in the middle of interacting with those characters. If you get a good core group who are dedicated to continuing the RP and furthering the story, your golden, the rest are just the toping on the cake.

By strong I never meant ability, but dedication.

Name: Sam Servius (or "Sawyer)

Age: 22

Appearance: Sam stands at about 5'11 and has lanky, non muscled limbs. The Breton's waist is extremely skinny, matching the rest of his body.
Sam is obviously not made for combat and is not ashamed of it, saying that steel is an inferior tool to the mind. On top of his head Sam sports a mane of dark gold, messy hair. His eyes radiate green and are set far apart, giving him a ponderous look. His jaw is well defined and
square, uncoated by facial hair. Sam's ears stick out a little to far and hold back his hair. Overall the Breton can be described as attractive by human and elven races, using this to his advantage.

Race: 90 percent Breton, 10 percent High Elf.

Birth sign: The Mage

Class: (Custom) Mindspeaker

Abilities/Skills: Illusion (Master, the rest aren't used much), Unarmed, Speech, Agility, unarmored, Violin (just for the fun of it).

Armor/clothing: Asortment of civilian clothes,
always paired with a light brown leather long coat, complete with a cowl.

Weapons: small bone handle dirk, scissor at times. (Ancient bladed gauntlet.)

Misc: multiple healing salves, poisoned needles (from a sea urchin, coated with various poisons), hair dye, various different extra clothes for disguises, brass bracket on left wrist.

Special: Intense understanding of the mind, more than gameplay allows (just a warning). The rest is to be decided.

Bio: Sam was born into a rich Breton family in Skingrad. The family made fine "Servius' Secret" wine, a moderately popular wine throughout Tamriel. The young Breton grew up in a nice household with a loving mother, father, and three sisters. From an early age Sam received extensive schooling in all subjects, however the boy cared nothing about his studies, usually getting into all sorts of trouble. Early on Sam's father discovered his sons aptitude in the school of Illusion. Excited that his son could be something (because he was uninterested in his studies) his father sent Sam off to the Imperial City to be privately mentored by an old High Elf.

So the boy set off on a carriage against his will at the age of nine on a rickety old carriage. The Breton nothing with him but some clothes, a bank account in his name provided by his father, and his mothers bracelet. The boy immediately took a disliking to his new ancient high elf mentor. The man was cranky and cold, caring only about increasing his own knowledge in Illusion and earning Mr. Servius' money. Sam's knowledge slowley increased with the aid of his mentor and by the age of 17 he had become par with most wizards three or four times his age. This however was when Sam started to divulge from his past. Just like any other teenager with a large amount of money Sam spent it... All. Hurting on money the Illusionist searched for a way to make some profit before his mentor kicked him out of his home at the age of 18.

So the young man started doing the only real way to make money fast, stealing. So the Breton stole, and stole... And stole. He did this with increasing success, sometimes simply pressing thoughts of urinating into guards minds so he could take the goods the guarded. But just like everyone else his luck eventually ran out. On one particular heist the Breton, now 19, went after his hardest mark ever, his master. Sam entered the building that was once his house, intent on stealing his masters amulet, an amulet that never left his neck. The Breton avenged the stairs to his masters sleeping quarters and entered, not worried about guards that he knew didn't exist. Sam slowley opened the door and crept inside, not making a noise, drifting towards his mentors bed. The old elf was there, slumbering peacefully, gentely snoring. Sam's hands reached for the amulet, fingertips lifting the chains up off of his neck. The amulet was almost off of his head when the elf awoke, eyes shooting open.

The ancient master immediately assaulted Sam. However this assault was not of the blade, the hand, or even the flame, it was of the mind. The elf forced overwhelming thoughts of death and suffering into Sam's mind, petrifying him. However Sam was trained by this very man in these very skills. Sam pushed back, apprentice against master, their minds battling, intertwining. But Sam was not strong enough, he did not have the hundreds of years of practice that the elf did and quickly knew he could not win.

So the Breton did something unexpected, he punched the elf, then again, and again, and again. He beat his face until it was nothing but a pile of mush, continuing without emotion, killing the man that he had spent the last 10 years with. When the deed was done Sam ran, forgetting the amulet. He ran for three years, never staying in one place for two long, stealing, killing, and drinking to stay alive and sane. Then on one night he was contacted by the Dark Brotherhood, being inducted into the family. Sam took a completely new name, Sawyer, forgetting about his old life, never mentioning it again. To be continued in RP............

Bio: will be finished after I ask a quick question.

i like the character, im assuming your intending to make him somewhat of a mind reader? but i'm not letting you read anyone's character's thoughts without either their permission or my own.

i'm semi-accepting the character sheet but i'm not letting you be OP with the mind ability

as for the province i'm unsure yet and as for the year i have absolutely no idea how the date system works in TES but as for the province which would you prefer?

EVERYONE im not going to start this Rp for a few days at least though i am excited that people are liking my idea =)
1: im in school and cant focus on this RP without losing focus on that
2. i haven't thought it out entirely this is mostly an interest thread

on a side note for those interested in the RP would you rather i host it in skyrim or cryodiil?

Oh, no full fledged mind reading I assure you. He can't read thoughts, just feelings and whispers of things. If I do anything like that I'll be sure to ask first.

As for the province, my vote is Cyrodill.

And the date, just tell me Pre or post great war.

The date system works in a series of Era's marked by important events that start or end that time period. For instance the apotheosis of Martin Septim into the avatar of Akatosh marked the ending of the 3rd Era (which had 433 years), and the start of the 4th Era (Skyrim takes place in the 204th year of the 4th Era. Years are written as such 3E 433, 4E 204. You always denote the era because if you just say 167th year, it could be in any of the 4 eras.)

http://uesp.net/wiki/Lore:History a timeline on UESP of the Era's and their events if it helps any.

Time to go eat, I'll be back to edit this if I missed anything.

Haha, lets not get ahead of ourselves. You the master of fluff.

You are something else, you know that? You are something else.

To the OP, to reinforce what Lord Tidus said, you need a solid story and plan for the plot. You need to be able to carry the Roleplayers through the story, and with a good group of dedicated roleplayers you'll be far more successful than many others. High numbers always die down after the rp has had its initial post steam.
