It should now be labled as "The Glow" on your map. I suggest you bring Rad-X though. I tried it and couldn't find an entrance once I got there... and I reeeeally wanna join the brotherhood.

Yup, take some Rad-X and Rad-Away with you. (and a rope~ Always carry a rope, everywere you go)

Pop 2/3 Rad-X the second you arrive.

When you leave, stop a little out of the green circle and take a few Rad-Away.

Whenever you feel ready
Theres not specific right time, it really depends on your character & what your plan is.

I think I've done everything else I need to do, I'm level 14 but I always get my butt handed to me in a couple of rounds. Maybe my unbalanced character I mentioned earlier is catching up to me.

Um.. when you remade your char did you change you S.P.E.C.I.A.L.s at all? Cause just taking 6 and 5 in everything is a bit weak. I had a char with gifted and night person so i had

5 Strength
8 Perception
5 Endurance
6 Charisma
8 Intelligence
8 Agility
5 Luck

This was during the day so technically I maxed out with 10 perception and 10 intelligence. Tagged Small guns, Sneak and Steal, criticals landed over 100 damage at times and most everything else came easy.

Just stick to how you char plays best I guess. Any weapon choice can work if you pump em up accordingly but taking speech opens up a lot more choices for you, especially in terms of avoiding combat.

Hey, it's cool that Fallout 3 has inspired you to try Fallout 1. From what I have seen (mostly youtube video comments, but that doesn't really reflect any aspect of reality) a lot of Fallout 3 fans see the originals as "cheesy" and "gay". I haven't gotten aroudn to trying Fallout 3 yet but it looks like a blast.

Anyway, my advice is this... Take Gifted, and then pump your intelligence up to ten, it'll counteract the skill loss. Skills aren't quite as important as they seem. Never put a single point into Throwing, it's the scrub skill of Fallout. Grenades are useless except for trading. Focus on small guns like these other guys have said.

Spoiler alert!
Spoiler
In the Hub, there's a guy who needs you to do a quest for him, to clear his farm of a bunch of raiders. He gives you the best gun in the game, the .223 Pistol in return. Do this as soon as possible.
