Questions about fallout 1

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:20 pm

I just bought fallout 1 and i am trying to enjoying it, by trying i mean that i have no idea how the hookshaw this is suppose to work, so here are my questions.

From what i've figured putting your gun and ammo into the first and second slot grants you the ability to shoot, but what do i do if i want to use a stimpack during combat?

Theres a bunch of RadScorpions under Shady Sands.. Should i take them on as soon as i get to Shady Sands, 2 seconds into the game?

*SPOILERS*

You can put your weapon in one of your active slots. You do not need to put ammo in your other one.

This leaves it free for stims, which you use by clicking on them then yourself. Or going into the inventory, holding down the RMB and dragging down to "use" ~This is probably a better idea.

You might be able to find rope in Shady Sands. It may also be worth talking to the mercenaries there.

Only do the radscorpion quest now if you want to get slaughtered. Come back when you have levelled a bit/have some armour/better weapons.

Whats your character build? SPECIAL stats, Tags and Traits?

Rad skorpions are easy to shoot. Wander around shady sands and talk to people. I know I picked up a rope, a companion and a SMG there, after which it is purely a matter of having enough ammo to kill the scorpions, and then selling off the tails that you couldn't use in the quest you get at shady sands.

You can, if you like, escape the raiders by walking rapidly away.

When you come out of your vault take the time to look around, as you will pick up a lot of ammo and goodies from stray boxes and bodies.

Okay. My advice: Start Again. Make a new character.

Take the Gifted Trait and Small Frame.
Make sure you put 10 in Agility and have a very high Intelligence. Drop Luck down to 4, maybe even 3. Keep Strength at 5.
You may want to increase Perception by 1.

Science isn't a very good choice for a tag skill. You'd be better off with Sneak/Lockpick/Steal. Also, focus on only 1 weapon skill.

Things are going to be very difficult for you then. You've pretty much gimped your character. Combat is going to be really tough with such a low agility.
You arent very far at all. Youve really only just started, shouldnt be much of an issue.

If you wanna carry on the best advice i can give you is ~Specialise. Dont try to be good at lots of things, youll end up being rubbish at everything. Just boost your tags, and only increase other stats if you really feel you have to.

Good choices. Lockpick is always nice, Small Guns are pretty much everywhere and Speech is brilliant.

To sprint, right click until your pointer becomes the hexegon. Then just hold 'Shift' and click your destination.

I have got most of the way through, I think, with the following character:

STR 10
Everything else left at 5 (AGI now 6 after a little procedure ;))

Tag skills - Hand to hand (now 200%), First aid (now 87%) and science (which is uesless) at 105% (took me while to realise it was useless :P) Also put some points into outdoorsman which is now also 105% and others which I can't remember.

Traits - Heavy handed and bloody mess

Perks - Awareness, Action Boy, Explorer and Swift Learner (took this first)

Character level 14.

Upgrading from brass knuckles to the power fist helped a LOT!

I have a question about Ian - Does he want to die? I give him armour and he never wears it......

@ Falloutnoobie,
You started with a Ten in Strength? :sigh: Such a waste. Heavy Handed and Bloody Mess are both bad choices for Unarmed too.
:P
I hereby present you with the "Least Efficient Melee'er Award" :hehe:

The companions can't wear armour in Fallout 1.

I don't think Fallout allows you to upgrade your companion's armour, nor can they use any weapon than what they specifically say they can use (in the case of Ian, pistols and SMG's). Fallout 2 does allow you to stick some armour on your companions, though it doesn't reflect on their in-game model.

I quite like this game, after about 20 hours of gameplay i can say its great but its hard as i cannot carry anything other than a few weapons.. i think that migth've been because of my SPECIAL selection, BUT it was recommended, and i am quite enjoying the level of skill i have with a gun.

Though i must say, that some enemies should be abit more easier to kill, like the Super mutatns and the Deathclaws, some advice on them would be nice :P

Currently i'm in San Fransisco, and i am trying to kill off the deathclaws so the Gun Runners can deliver weapons to the gang. ( Some help with the Deathclaws? )

Other than this i am quite enjoying this game and i will most likely be using all night play =D

Do I get a trophy then? :P

As an aside, what level is it best to take on the master?

Shoot Deathclaws in the eyes! Its a good idea to cripple their legs first though, and fight them 1 at a time.
Having Companions will help too, as long as they dont get attacked first.

Have you got Power Armour yet?

Whenever you feel ready
Theres not specific right time, it really depends on your character & what your plan is.
