Questions about holsters and a few other things.

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 11:58 am

Watching the E3 trailer, i noticed a few things:

1. I didn't see any holsters (again). Does that mean we're once again doomed to have weapons magically attached to our hips and backs?

2. I don't really like the crit meter. I much prefer the RNG nature of critical hits. Will we have an option to revert to RNG crits?

3. I saw a raider with a level under his name in vats. Does this imply that some areas will be too high of a level, negating our ability to roam as we please?

4. The compass has the little red dots to show us where the enemies are. Will we have an option to disable this? I don't like my character to be psychic.

Umm......

There are... MAGNETS in your pockets!

That's why they stick to your hips. :)

But yeah, holsters would be nice.

One problem with holsters and weapon modifications. Add longer barrel and scope on your pistol and it will clip.

I agree with crit, it should be random. Probably fixable in mods.

Think its like fallout 3 and skyrim areas has level brackets. say from 15-25, enemies will have minimum level 15 and maximum 25, if you enter at level 5 they will be 15, as 17 they will be level 17, but only 25 if you are level 40.

disabling dots probably require mods,

9/10 things like holsters ends up looking more ugly then none, and as someone pointed out we will have a vast iption to modify our guns, so it would be extra likely to look ugly.

Well a lot of swords in Skyrim have scabbards. Maybe SOME of the guns have holsters?

i really hope the entire game scales around the player, rather than hard or soft gated areas. This would greatly increase exploration options rather than forcing a linear a -> b -> c playstyle because we haven't leveled enough yet.

As for the holster clipping issue. Even something as simple as a leather pad with a few loops and/or straps on it (rather than the conventional enclosed holster) would be preferable to nothing at all. In FO:3 and FO:NV, i refused to use pistols at all until the holster mods in FO:NV came out. It's easier for me to ignore a bit of clipping than weapons magickally stuck to the PC's hip.

In F3 it was based on perception. So it's not about psychics... it just about your character can see and hear the enemies better.

Nononononononono, one Oblivion was bad enough. No more game scaling [censored]. Whats the point in adventuring if you can't run into something that will smear you across three different continents? I want to play a game with a world, not a training simulation which is basically what a scaling game is. As you get better, you enemies get slightly better with you. It's like those learning games that 5 year olds play with their mothers. It starts off easy and as they learn what to do it scales up a bit until they know what they are doing. I'd rather play a game designed towards giving someone with a fully function brain the ability to play in an alternate world.

I too like unexpected challenges. I don't like the predictability that comes with knowing which areas are to be avoided until later. I've played mods in NV and Skyrim that have a chance to hard to stupidly hard npc's to the early areas of the games. That's what i want here. It adds to the immersion for me to be able to cross an area, kill everything one time, and the next time i get decimated by enemies even though my level hasn't changed or has only changed by a level or two.

In NV, the only areas i avoided until later were the Deathclaw areas. Everywhere else i explored when the whim took me.

That's a terrible idea. I hope there is no such level scaling.

Ideally there would be randomness in enemy levels, as well as specific areas having higher or lower levelled enemies in a way that makes sense.

If this could be done without level gating, i'm all for it. 'Course, i'm not really much for levels in games like this anyway. In skyrim i do a large part of the game without leveling up. Really hope they have a similar system in fo4. NV forced level up was intrusive to the point of rudeness, imo.

Atleast we saw that you don't have to undress to wear a power armor.

Regardless of the opinions about level gating, i think my other questions are certainly deserving of an answer and/or further discussion.
