2 questions about Rex.

Post » Wed Dec 31, 2008 8:52 pm

1. Why is his eyes always popping out of his head after a fight (they end up beside his head to the left), and how can this be fixed?
2. How can i prevent him from attacking when i have told him to be passive?

2. You mean tell him to be pacifist right?
I think all companions still attack even if you put that mode on.

Even when Passive, if they see a threat to you, they act on it and defend you. Even if you tell them to Wait and you are threatened nearby, they act on it.

I don't know about his eye thing but one time Arcade's glasses were hanging by the side of his head. :)

Well then the Dev's haven't done there job correctly ;) if you tell them to not attack then they should not attack...at least not run ahead and attack enemy's that isn't attacking me.

He also has a thing about rats, he hates them and will attack as if set to agressive.

Due to being a creature he most likely has a high perception and spot distance.
He most likely is just programed to see and respond to threats before you do, as some foes will give a caution or hostile rating even if no where near to you.
If they added a never attack function rather than just agressive and passive, it may have helped.

Just noticed the other day Rex = King = the Kings = the King = Rex's owner, man I can be dumb.

Passive does not meant never fight/attack. It just means they wont attack EVERY enemy as soon as they are spotted, I believe that when on passive they will wait for enemies to begin attacking you before attacking back (this seems to include when they are moving into a position to attack.)

Does The King ever tell you that you can keep Rex? He says he's loaning him to you. While you basically do actually own him, I just wish it was official. :P

Not so. ED-E actively hunts and kills enemies as soon as I get a "CAUTION" indicator. He is set on passive and told to keep his distance. If I am walking along, he will race past me and kill enemies...I guess as soon as he determines them to be a threat. I'm afraid to set him on aggressive.

As Havelock1000 wrote, that is not correct, Rex attacks like ED-E does in passive mode....he just heads of and attacks every enemy even when they don't attack me.

Aggressive means they attack anything/everything that comes within their own "sight range", even if that enemy has not detected you yet.

Passive just means they do not start attacking until a threat has detected you. This is why if you're sneaking/have a high sneak, you can get a lot closer to enemies before companions go into combat mode. If you're not sneaking/have a very low sneak, you won't notice a ton of difference most of the time, imo.

The problem with passive is they worded it very badly, leading people to think it meant "Do not attack, evah." That is not what it means. And yes, I also think they should have had a 'do not attack evah' setting.

I should add that "detected you" does not mean actively shooting at you. In this case I believe it means they have not only detected/heard you but are actively looking for you.

Well i removed his body part (eyes) and did draw them on his texture so they are static, better then seeing his eyes out of his sockets all the time :D

Yeah, I really hate that. "Don't engage unless I engage first". Yeah, they just attack the enemies when I'm trying to sneak around them. I have Rex all the time and he never ceases to attack the enemy before I attack first.

As for the first one, I'm not sure, I don't really know. I don't pay much attention to how my companions look when I'm battling, or even after.

There should be three levels

Aggresive - Attack on site
Follow my lead - Don't attack until I do
Passive - Don't attack unless attacked first.

Add a option to never attack, that would help in some cases.

His eyes still pop out of his sockets after a fight, the best fix for this is my way....directly draw the eyes on his texture.
