This is why I never would have been satisfied with a $300 rig. I'm stuck on console for now but eventually I will have a replacement computer ... then look out.

If this is retextured and remastered in many ways, doesn't that mean that all mods made for the game would have to be remastered as well? They'd support the original Skyrim textures, not Special Edition's? And, while it'd be amazing to play it when released, I doubt Skywind will ever be available for the consoles.

No, textures don't work like that. The HD textures only replace the originals but are named the same, so the game (and any mods that reference those textures) won't know the difference. The same should be true for the rest of the regular games assets as well, although it's possible that any changes to the rendering might affect some graphical mods.

But but but but

For those of us on Consoles

Using a normal tv instead of a monitor

Will The new game output in full 1080p?

Or better.....might it look like playing a Blue Ray disc....ie. Super sharp even on a big tv

Please say yes

It will look great on a HDTV. I play on PC with the high res pack and a 55" 1080p HDTV and it looks super sharp, much better than my Xbox version, which is capped at 720p. The Special Edition will be at least 1080p, if not more. So, yeah, it will look super sharp on your big tv.

Do you think achievements will be unlockable with mods activated?

Thank you. I'm not tech savvy, and usually being wrong on the Internet seems to warrant people attacking you and calling you stupid. So thanks for being polite, too. I'm glad we don't have that to worry about. I'm so excited to finally be able to play mods, as I'm young with no room or money for a good PC or laptop and have been waiting to play mods since I first got into Elder Scrolls.

My guess is no, as the new Skyrim will most likely piggyback on the same system, and be subject to the same rules, as Fallout 4, mod-wise.

There may yet be hope that someone will make a console mod that tricks consoles into thinking that games aren't modded... well, at least until someone who knows more about console modding than me says "not possible." Which is to say, someone who knows anything about console modding at all.

I think they should allow achievements for graphical, armor/weapon and skin mods, but disable them If it alter the game (new power, invincible, new quests, all items, etc.)

Maybe it could be in the mod description?

Steam achievements are unlockable with mods installed, I think it would be very hard to distinguish between mods that give you an advantage and those that do not.

I'm sure they will leave achievements enabled, ultimately it doesn't impact on anyone else if people cheat to get them (unless i am missing something).

I doubt it, achievements are disabled with mods on the console versions of FO4

and as for the "it doesn't impact if someone cheats", keep in mind every 360 or PS3 game I am aware of that had cheats disabled achievements/trophies the second you input one..

I don't see the big deal though because I never saw the appeal of achievements in the first place.. I don't need a fancy pop up to feel rewarded in a video game, i feel rewarded just from playing.. but, to each their own i guess, different strokes for different folks and all that ([censored] it, now i have the theme to diff'rent strokes stuck in my head)

@nic727:

Given the recent kerfluffle, I think Bethesda's got a lot to learn with regards to curating mods. If Beth had an automated way to detect what mods do, that'd be one thing - but I don't think they'll ever be in a position to verify any sort of self-reporting.

Remember, they've got to satisfy Microsoft and Sony, so any plan they concoct for deciding which mods should or should not block achievements has to be rock-solid and independently verifiable.

Fair enough, I only play console games at friends houses I assumed the achievements would work similarly to steam.

Yeah i've never really seen the appeal of them either, sometimes it just seems like a lazy way for the developers to prolong the playtime of a game... "complete as a male" "complete as a female" "dont use the jump button for 18 minutes" etc etc. I do enjoy still accidently unlocking them after 3 years of skyrim tho, think I've still only got about 70% of them.

I certainly never understood the appeal of video game 'achievements', particularly in an RPG where your actions should be character based rather than motivated by the need to fill in some completionist checklist. All they are are little electronic participation awards that give you a pat on the head for doing something any grade schooler can do sitting on the living room couch while fighting a sibling over the game controller.

I certainly wouldn't give them any priority over mods.

You know... now that y'all mention it... I haven't seen one of those annoying pop-ups since moving to PC... but in looking at my Steam Page...( I had to make it go on-line) it say's I have unlocked 40 of 75 achievements. So I am going to presume that one can unlock achievements with mods...on PC anyway... with Steam.

I'm going to suppose that if unlocking achievements is important... one might not want to use mod's that don't allow for such a thing.

On PC it's not really popups. It's an upper-left-corner text block.... and if you're busy, you'll miss it!

there is an option in steam settings to disable the pop ups, you may have it toggled on

Same here. In offline mode, Steam doesn't keep track of anything you do, including play time, as far as I know.
