Questions about Skyrim Special Edition

Post » Sun Jun 19, 2016 9:46 pm

Hi,

I have some questions about Skyrim Special Edition :

1. Will I be to transfer my game save and achievements from Xbox 360 to Xbox One?

2. How many mods can be installed at the same time on console? Will it lag If I install graphical mods for characters, environment, armors, etc?

3. If we paid the game with all extensions on console, is there a way to don't pay the game full price in retail store? Maybe a code that you could send us on console to show at someone in store (Ebgames, etc)?

Thank you

We don't know much about it yet but I'll answer as best as I can.

(1. Most likely not. I mean, maybe but I doubt it.

(2. We don't know the limit yet. If I remember correctly you can have up to 2gbs of mods for Fallout 4 on consoles. I may be wrong on that, though. As for your other question... If you install too many HD texture packs or anything of that sort, yes, you will eventually lag. We don't know the fps or resolution that the new Skyrim will be running at. What you can do on top of the re-master will depend upon that information.

(3. The current answer is "No." It would be difficult to prove who has and has not actually purchased the game and Bethesda would have to make arrangements with the various stores that would be carrying the game. Now, a digital version? That could potentially be another story and you'll just have to wait and see. I can say that it is incredibly unlikely that you'll be picking up a free physical copy though and you may not see a free digital copy either. Time will tell!

1. I don't want to disappoint, but I doubt you will be able to import your save. Don't take this as a fact, though.

2. From what I've seen the game is pushing the consoles, especially the Xbox One, quite a bit already. I don't think graphical mods are recommended for consoles, any other mod should be fine.

3. PC players will get the remaster for free if they already own the original game. A free update for console players has not been anounced, so it is likely that they have to pay for it.

I can almost say with 100% certainty that you will have to pay full price for the Xbox1 version. The main reason is that Skyrim is not an account like an MMO. It's a single player game on a different console.

The PC users can get a free upgrade because the game is on the same platform and the game is tied to their Sfeam account.

You could say that you have a 360 version of Skyrim in your Xbox live account but that does not change the fact that the game is still coming out on a different console. The fact that it's the same title is irrelevant. Notice, I said same title, not same game. With the graphic upgrades and code changing to make it play on the Xbox1, it could be argued that it is no longer the same game.

Number 3 should be as easy as it has been for the other devs who have offered discounts for previously remastered games on both LIVE and PSN. If it's possible on steam, then it should be possible on LIVE/PSN as everything is attached to your account (dlc d/l history etc) not the actual console. Someone can feel free to correct me here, but for the disc copies, it should just be a matter of putting the disc into the tray and it triggering the digital version because that's how the backwards compatibility program works on LIVE.

Edit: This is assuming you're buying digital of course. Sorry, forgot to state that. Like you said, physical is something else entirely and would be impossible to implement.

The pc version already have the hd texture pack who is lots of the new content in the special edition.

They also have upgraded graphic settings and mod support, so its not so much new stuff it justifies an new game.

The special edition will be awesome if it means the engine is updated to 64 bit like Fallout 4, allowing us to use all our memory. I'm pretty sure that's why Fallout 4 is so stable compared to previous games ... the previous ones pushed available memory to the limits and the game crashed a lot, but Fallout 4 has a lot more overhead.

My Skyrim is already pretty, but I could make use out of all that extra memory.

Your Skyrim isn't 64 bit, nor does it have full volumetric lighting or PBR.

For PC players, the remaster isn't about looking better at vanilla specs, it's about providing a much better foundation to then add mods to. All your texture packs will likely work straight away, with ENBs coming days after, so in no time the re-released Skyrim will outstrip anyone's current modded Skyrim.

My skyrim....well.....pah!

My ancient, heavily punished, overheating (despite a desk fan) Xbox 360

With its creaking 720p outputting sludge graphics, that make a 1920's B movie look HD, because I have them smeared molecule thick over a 65inch plasma tv.

Lags so badly that turning Adella a bit quick gives me the kind nausea inducing vision that normally requires several pints to achieve.

but I love Skyrim so much that for years I have lived with its foibles on the 360 without complaint.

NOW THIS!

Oh I can't wait for Oct 28th

BUT......Oh savage irony, cruel twist of hateful fate.......my dear Adella has her entire DiD story tied to her personality growth.......the story is on Xbox....her growth....is something else......yet both are inextricably linked.

Simply restarting her on an XB1 is no solution for us.....while her adventures could be re-enacted.....the exact happening of it would be changed......and what is she to do as her life is undone to be re-done? How is she to change homes and remain alive?

Dear sweet (yet dangerously volatile) Adella......How I have longed to hold you in my mind. I could no more kill you to change platforms than sever mine own leg and feed it to next door's annoying dog.

There must be a way to do this.....to make the transfer.

All I need is the list of completed quests and skills growth, level etc to be transferable and fronted up by a new Character creation screen likeness. The alternative is much harder!

Ah, but then....one day I will have a pc anyway and her likeness will render like this...

Depends upon what you mean by beautiful!

Artistic.....yes

Romantically hazey......yes

orange/brown/tobacco/sepia aged.....yes

Nice and clear......No

I hope those were just chosen for their um' 'theatrical' value

If the whole game is now to be played in a mellow fog I Won't be happy

The fog is just for theatrical value, Sir Rick. Fallout 4 is absolutely crystal clear at times, but, morning fog is never out of place.

Going to 64-bit is quite an update, and AFAIK there's no mod can do that

I'm definitely interested in upgrading the engine, but my graphics are better than this already, especially the water. I've long since left behind the gummy water effects. The main thing I'm concerned with is getting rid of the dastardly Xbox 360 32bit engine, which causes my PC version to CTD all over the place. I'm just hoping the upgrade can be done without affecting my game. It's a possibility, since I don't run any of my mods or game saves from inside my Skyrim folder, just as Gopher recommended.

Thus far shadows are significant Performance Drain. Originally they looked pretty crappy although looking at the new screenshots I can't tell if they've been improved.

The new version is 64 bit? Good news and no no mods can do that, still its not something who make it an new game.

Mods should be compatible, remember you use the same mods for console. Bug fixes and changes might require some fixes.

You would need an new SKSE.

I found that on a Greek tech site, maybe someone can confirm it too, as i haven't seen the whole show.

So, the translation goes as follow:

Speaking at the post-show livestream of Bethesda, director Todd Howard said that the resolution textures from the Special Edition of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be higher,

from the High Resolution Texture Pack released for PC.

Moreover, he confirmed that the shaders will be even more sophisticated. Finally, he said that a similar result with the Special Edition have seen only those who have installed high-end mods on the PC.

WoW - if that's true, i thing that's the Skyrim that everyone wishes to play again. Especially, those who bought the next gen consoles. (me included :P)

The thing i wondered about the most: Is weather (precipitations, mostly) upgraded to fallout 4 levels? or will rain still fall through roofs? if it IS upgraded, than we can start making mods with no load screen interiors, transparent windows and make full use of the 64 bit architecture.

this doesnt look to me any improvement over HD DLC in any way look the road textures and rocks texture and lighting on it over at the right hand side of the road. they look so low resolution.

My question is will the old saves work on the PC? I'd guess yes, but heck, I'm no developer.

It'd be nice to just continue my game without a hitch, but i'm sure some of my mods won't work and it will take some work.

It does, but at the same time, some of that may be video compression... I know the PC version looked sharper than that on Vanilla, especially the trees and vines.
