Questions about the Conjurers in Oblivion

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 9:41 pm

Forgive me if this has been asked before but who are the conjurers in Oblivion?People just regard them as bandits but they seem a bit too large to be that. The blue robes they all wear is awfully similar to those that alot of people in the mages guild wear.Does the group originate from the Mages Guild? While I don't see any idolatry towards the daedric princes, they certainly do love their daedra,is the group any relation to these cults,or do they love the lesser daedra so much they like to stay away from cults and society, becoming a less nature-loving and male-friendly version of a giant witch coven?

Free-lance mages who were made into bad guys just because the Devs needed more badguys, similar to how they made Necromancers evil in Oblivion.

EDIT: It's unlikely that they worship lesser daedra so much as are friendly with them. Further, since the Magic school of Conjuration was only adopted by the mages guild between 3E417 and 3E427 (most likely as a replacement for the dropped school of Thaumaturgy) they may have been the former practitioners of conjuration. This is a guess but think about it; if the mages guild only started teaching it 12 years before Oblivion (at the max) how could there be masters of it if there weren't orders of Conjurers before?
