Questions and help

Post » Sat May 15, 2010 4:19 pm

Hello everyone, Im part of a clan that in order for a new game to be supported it must fulfill some requirements. At one point I had this all taken care of but I cannot find the links to the information needed. If any of you would be so kind as to help me find the proof that Brink answers the requirements I will be posting it would be great.

- Must be able to host private or public servers/ games
- Must be able to change server/ game settings
- Must be able to have a private lobby / area / room / etc

If anyone could help speed up this process for me I would be very thankful.

What do you mean by "Im part of a clan that in order for a new game to be supported it must fulfill some requirements."

I think it means that they are a clan already, not just a clan created for Brink. So I guess they want to know If Brink Can do those things Before adding it to their game list?

It would have to be a question of the PC though, Since Xbox 360 and PS3 can do those things with pretty much every Online game, so I would Assume Brink Is no different. But For PC I dunno, Probably.

some games on consoles dont have these things OP mentioned.most have stupid matchmaking and very little clan support, like in case of Medal of Honor, or COD, when clan support means you can stick clan tag in front of your gamertag.

...? This thread never said anything about specific clan support. Just servers (Hosting), Setting changes and lobbies(Party), which most console games including COD (MW,MW2 and BO) has, dunno bout MOH never played.

There is no solid proof for every single thing you mention, but the PC-version will most likely cover them all.

Dedicated servers with custom setting will most likely be available for PC.

Dedicated servers have been confirmed for PC.
The chance you won't be able to modify your server is pretty slim. 1) It would be ridiculous if you can't 2) Ranked servers on ETQW didn't really work out as intended 3) SD and Bethesda are known for supporting mods and community created content.
You're probably able to put a password on your server (as in their previous games)

Just to add to this topic for myself...

I know dedicated servs have been confirmed but will this by dedicated server files that we can host ourselfs on a dedi server box or will Brink be only available by renting other servers ??

My team has a dedicated server that we can host on and already pay for...having to rent more servrs is a bit of a strain on a small group.

Thanx for any info.

I am almost positive they are traditional dedi servers that users can rent, not servers run by Bethesda and/or SD.

Considering that SD has been talking about improving things over the server system in W:ET and ET:QW (such as improving the server ranking system), I would guess that the way servers work is largely unchanged from those games, where you can use any server you like and change the settings as you see fit, or even mod the game.

That would include all 3 of OP's requirements.

There are dedicated servers for PC, you can use your own server or even a home computer ( with good upload speed)
servers will be configurable, and you can password protect server to make it private. Check out SD's first game Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory for an example

Cool that`s the way to go...my team already have a dedi server in the uk running 100 meg up and down..

my main concern was that most new games now force you to rent servers if you want to run your own rather than providing the dedi server tools and files you need to just set one up on your own or a dedi server..

Great news.
