The mane is a breed of Khajiit that is very rare, and is an important figure in Khajiit culture. He used to be the reason Khajiit would shave off their manes. Cathay or Cathay-Raht are often seen carrying him around because his mane has made him unable to move due to it being so heavy. I don't know if he is still an important ruling figure, though. He might still be up there with the clan mothers.

Okay, so I can give more information on this part of Khajiit lore, I have the UESP open.

Khajiit legends and traditions say that only one mane can be around when one is born. Much of the information about the Mane revolves around legends, so these may just be legends. They are born under a rare alignment of the moons Masser and Secunda when, according to legend, a third moon actually appears. Khajiit tradition and legends seem to mention reincarnation when it comes to how the Mane is born, as well.

Thanks, so far it might somewhat fit my theory, though what about the part where I keep hearing people say it isnt the first time hes died etc etc on the subject of his assassination?

Well, in the greg keyes novels, it's mentioned that the Mane of that time period had been assassinated.

Im aware, but I seem to recall reading a few times that it has died more than once, as if it was dieing and reviving over and over, any info surrounding that or am I just getting a bit messed?

The Mane is essentially a title, like King. A Khajiit is born under a rare astronomical event involving the moons, and this marks him as the next Mane. When the current Mane dies, the next one takes his place.

Oh I see, so its like some sort of indirect royalty line. For a while I was under the impression it was one guy reviving over and over. Ive almost got all the info I need now (thanks a lot guys) to write out my theory (although now it unfortunately seems less likely). One last thing; what about The Mane's relationship with the Khajiit tower? Ive heard a couple times he may be its stone, whatever that means? Can anyone elaborate on that?

That's a myth of theirs. The revival is spiritual, like the Dalai Lama, rather than physical.

THe Khajiit DO believe that its one buy being reincarnated, which is why there is only ever one Mane. Mane is not just a title, its a breed that becomes a title.
